This time round is going to be interesting as there are an unusual amount of third party titles being released on both the new consoles and their predecessors which as of right now offer little to no difference from the general core gameplay experience aside from a visual upgrade.
not a particularly strong launch lineup, its a bit safe with most of the focus on the usual third party big sellers.
Aside from one or two titles there's no reason to invest in a new system since most in the list are third party and also available on their predecessors.
I think its safe to say that the third party titles listed here will also make up most of the ps4 launch lineup.
this youtube video shows Mark Cerny talking about either going with GDDR5 or DDR3 + EDRAM. (someone used a filter on this but I'm sure its part of Mark's gamelab talk.)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uFaKX2YnH0I
with a 256 bit bus on GDDR5 would have a throughput of 176 GB per second.
But a slower 128 bit bus DDR3 (which only has 88 GB throughput) coupled with small EDram can increase the thoughput to about 1000 GB a Second.
The tradeoff is that there are a few extra hurdles going down the DDR3 + EDRAM route where as Mark and his team wanted to reduce as many obstacles as possible.
leaving the decision (and giving control of the physical title) to the publisher is just as bad as what was floating about before.
Lets face it, Any title that has a triple A budget is going to make the publisher enforce the restrictions to their game. Considering that selling between 3-5 million copies of a AAA title is mostly marked down as a failure in the publisher's eyes and that devs shuttering after only making one failed title shows that most publishers will go down this path.
We all know that EA and Activision will be the first to enforce this.
there may be Some hope in the PS4 but signs are pointing towards a similar concept by giving the same powers to the publisher.
This isn't going to go down well, for a feature length animation which was largely experimental while containing a classical soundtrack which compliments the visuals, you'd think they'd keep it as close to the animation as possible.
But no, screw that lets shove in a soundtrack which doesn't honor the source material and be done with it.
From someone who loves this game to death and owns all 3 versions of the original mirror's edge since it is such an amazing game.
there is no way that I am going to buy an xbox one just to play this title alone regardless, even if ms manages to sort out the mess they have made with 'features' of the xbone.
its not going to happen, there are already devices/apps that can do (and a better job at that.) the general entertainment side that the xbox one can do.
Besides i don't see a person interested in streaming/tv putting down $400+ for an xbox one when they could spend $99 for a dedicated streaming/entertainment device.
@tracead33live heard something similar along the lines earlier, if they think this is a good idea then they are seriously out of touch with their customers.
Especially if they are going to charge full price if you decide to borrow a game from a friend.
good job ms for killing off your chances of selling this thing.
The way ms are handling this is not working, if they want gamers to feel confident about the xbox one then they better start by revealing how this is going to work in great detail RIGHT NOW and not at a later date.
Leaving it too long is going to further distance anyone from even considering the xbox one.
Personally i don't see whatever they have planned as something that works for the customer's needs rahter than looking at how they could line their own pockets further.
and the news gets worse for this console. granted the headline is a bit sensationalist considering the sub heading states:
"USB 3.0 allows for users to plug-in external hard drives for additional storage."
so microsoft has gone the same route as nintendo with hard drive upgrades but where as you can see that the wii u is a tightly packed system in which a traditional hd wouldn't fit.
The xbox one (stupid name, i will always think folk are talking about the original xbox.) is a large hulking box so personally i don't see why they can't allow to make the hd user accessible.
