Saying, "they had this in the 90s..." is stupid.

@firedrakes They had portable phones in the 90's too. Now look- we have smartphones that are more powerful than full-sized consumer computers were in 2002.

@Bopinstein Yes. In fact, some people with visual impairments, especially related to depth perception, sometimes see better in the Rift than in real life, so to speak. There are also applications being made to help correct/treat diplopia and other such similar ailments.

@nathanmaxtro You can get a DK2 now, and receive it September or later, or try to hold out for the actual consumer version. Be wary though, it is explicitly meant for developing. It is a Development Kit (DK2). It is not very user friendly, and a lot of its content is half-made so far. If you're not keen on troubleshooting, and have a good gaming PC, or not a developer and/or enthusiast etc., then wait for the consumer version.

@Diegoctba @Slade968 @Meta-Gnostic Spent quite a bit of time with DK1, Have spent quite a few hours with DK2 over the past week or so. I didn't get sick in any well implemented demo in the DK1, but I'm not an indicator of the masses. There are certainly some people that couldn't take the motion blur of the DK1, or other similar flaws. Nothing really phased me in terms of nausea, but I can understand that many would get some sickness in the Dk1.

The Dk2 is miles better, and many people that were prone to sickness in the DK1, are reporting that they feel no sickness at all in DK2. So, some people were getting sick because of flaws like low frame rate and motion blur. The DK2 fixes that. Of course, there are other aspects of VR that will still make some people sick. There's also the idea that many people that get sick can acclimatize rather quickly, much like an unseaworthy sailor would stop getting sick after some time at sea.

With the fidelity of the DK2 and onward, I think the only two major components of sickness are going to be 1. the type of game and its VR implementation, and 2. a persons proneness to simulator sickness. Some games will just make some people sick, just like some carnival rides are going to make some people sick. Some people are just going to be sensitivity to any active movement in VR, just like some people are extremely sensitive to even slight motion sickness.

@Pre_ordered_PS4 What's funny is that the Kinect actually has many more compelling uses IN virtual reality and with the Rift!

@666NightsInHell Even some of the harshest skeptics changed their minds once they tried it, it's surging in popularity because it actually delivers compelling experiences, and you can pick one up for the cost of a month or two of a new smartphone, so I don't know where you get the idea that it's "expensive." It costs the same as upper-tier gaming GPUs, of which, more than a dozen million people buy quite frequently.

@Slade968 @TigusVidiks That thing is inaccurate, very restricted and tied to preconfigured gestures. It's not a very compelling device for VR. Control VR however, is amazing, though the cost is a bit prohibitive.
