Of all the games to get a movie, Rampage was not exactly the game I thought would ever get one. Like the game, I don't exactly expect a good story, just mindless fun so I will probably check this one out.
@xcreep1ngdeath: If people like that movie, then that is of course fine, the more power to them. And I kinda envy those people who like or even love The Last Jedi.
But while watching it I was trying so hard to find something I liked about it. And besides some visual scenes here and there, nothing resonated with me. Never have I been so disappointed by a movie in my life. I have loved all the Star Wars movies before it, even the prequels and episode 7. But The Last Jedi was total garbage imo. The downside of being a huge fan is the potential disappointment can hit you that much harder.
For my part I am very disappointed by them going away from the supernatural aspect of Tomb Raider. And I am far less interested in a sequel if this is the route they are going forward. That the story of Himiko was just turned into a generic virus/zombie thing was lame to me. I enjoyed most of the action in the movie and I liked the actress who played Lara. But nothing in this movie was done better than the game itself. The story was butchered, the island itself had no character as it had nothing that made it look interesting. It was all just rocks and trees... And its inhabitants was just the generic private military types.
I have only liked God of War for the boss battles and big set piece moments. But I have always found the combat against mobs to be repetitive and boring. This game seems to improve on the combat a lot with more variation and hopefully a combat system where you can't just keep doing the same combo over and over again. Hopefully it forces you into doing something different depending on what you are fighting.
What worries me is that some of these enemies looks a bit too spongy to me. If the combat takes too long against these regular mobs, then it is going to get tedious after a while. Some of the lengthy combat moments in the earlier games made me almost stop playing as it was so boring to fight waves after waves of the same enemies.
I just saw the movie and it was ok. The best part of it is Alicia as Lara, I think she nailed it and man she is toned in this movie. The action scenes was pretty fun but the story was butchered by changes.
I know some changes had to be done for it to be made into a movie, but a major part of the game is the island itself. And the island in this movie is just a bunch of rocks and trees with no character to it. And I absolutely hated the change to the Himiko story, so lame.
They could have cut out a huge part of the beginning of this movie and put her right into the fray as the game does. The first part should have been a survival story, as when she lands on the island it is way to abrupt what happens in the movie.
I really don't get why no game movie can ever just stick to the source material more faithfully, there is a reason why the games are popular.
@graffitiheart: It is about time they ditch the boring bow and give us the duel pistols again. Never understood why they ditched that part of her character. It is like taking away the whip from Indiana Jones.
