@coop36: You do realise that the people spending thousands are not people like you and me, right? These are guys with way too much, most of them based in Silicon Valley. For them spending thousands it's like us giving a homeless guy some spare change.
What the rich do with their money is not our concern. Especially when it ultimately helps us all (and not often you can say that!)
@halvedlife: "All that money"? Compared to other AAAs, it's still not that much. The game has been in development for around 3-4 years, that is still a very short time for a game! Let me put this in a way your little consumerist mind can find palatable: It's like if GTA were made in the same fashion, they would release a limited section of the city (in this case, a galaxy) in order to find out what their customers thought of it so far and to have the advantage of ironing out bugs long before the final version ever hits stores.
I know that's tough to understand, but over half a million of us do understand it, and everyone will reap the rewards in a year or so.
@Kunakai: Umm... I'm fairly sure setting aside money for a production line was one of the first things they did :-S Unless you think they should have employed some elderly farmers with a background in knitting?
If the game takes too long to develop - You people complain. If they put it out faster and it has bugs - You people complain. How can a studio win exactly??
If we're going to demand more and more complex games, then we're going to have to learn how to be much more patient and accepting gamers.
@xolivierx: I don't think you quite 'get' Just Cause... This isn't a simulator - It's simply about going mental and causing mayhem. Who needs realism and realistic mechanics!?? There are other, better games for that! Go try Arma or something.
@teg: Great. Now try listing the Star Wars games made after the year 2000 that have been any good, with the exception of KotOR. I'd quite like to have all these great games you speak of a little more frequent than every 25 years. Will EA give us that? We'll only know the answer when we see exactly what Visceral have been up to with Amy Hennig. Judging all future games based on Battlefront is just stupid.
@fyrant: Weird. I played both Prison Architect and Kerbal Space Program through early access, and it was actually a great experience helping such committed and passionate developers to create the game they/we wanted in the way they/we wanted.
These studios don't have the starting budgets of many others, and I for one am more than happy to help them through the process in return for a cheaper game. But the thing you don't seem to be getting is that some of us humans actually enjoy helping people and being part of a larger experience. Maybe you should try it sometime?
