Now I've already personally speculated that Sony's answer to xCloud isn't to push remote play on PSNow servers. Rather its to utilize PS5 back-compatibility PS1-PS4 to allow PSNow to download all games which are all remote play enabled.
Essentially your own console becomes the remote server and allows you to play all your existing games on various devices for no cost.
I really hoping this happens, I have no OG PSX or PS2 games or consoles, so I'd really like that.
It works now.
If you have the couple of digital PS1/PS2 games on PS4 you can remote play them. I have PSNow and download the PS2 classics and use it through remote play. Dark Cloud and Rogue Galaxy are amazing via remote play.
I like it, but I need better hardware than my PSVR and better games. Driveclub VR was fun but since I'm not great at it after about 1/2 hour of spin outs I get sick. The screen door effect on PSVR doesn't help. I actually have a ton of VR games for PSVR.
The last game I played was Skyrim VR. I made it to the first Inn and then made a conscious in-game decision to end my adventures and pretend my character decided to live a nice quiet life working on a local farm for the rest of his life as escaping his ordeal... The experience in VR was that overwhelming... I likely will pick it up again soon but I actual experience some level of PTSD and dread from the game. Honestly if Skyrim were set in a more tropical scenic area I would be more inclined to continue. I've actually delayed playing Skyrim and dropped it twice before because I just don't like the environment.
Wow I never knew there was an official way to do remote play on ios.
Yep, but I will say it has a long way to go to beat R-Play. R-Play allows your to resize and move the button overlay. I'm sure that will come eventually. Both apps support 1080P and 60fps if you have a PSPro and it works very well. *Tips* play use high frame rate if possible as it helps mitigate lag. Remote Play is best for turn based gameplay on the go so I usually use it for JRPGs.
The latest update to the PlayStation 4 operating system has a feature that some users have craved for years. From today, the console will now properly sync with iOS devices, giving iPhone and iPad users the ability to game with the PS4 Remote Play app. Given that Sony first launched remote play (for its Xperia Z3) in October 2014, it's certainly been a long time coming.
Much like its forbears, setup is as simple as updating your PS4, downloading the app and pairing the two. The on-screen controls are overlaid onto the image, and like many mobile games, will probably play better with a third-party controller. Sadly, you can't connect a DualShock 4 to an iPhone unless you've jailbroken it, so third-party options are probably the way to go.
Of course, if you've really wanted to play PS4 on your iPhone, you've been able to, just not without Sony's express blessing. Third party apps, like R-Play, have enabled this since 2017, although unlike Sony's offering, you had to pay $12 for the privilege. If that seems too steep, you can now grab the PS4 Remote Play app for iOS in the App Store.
Update: Adding more details since the controller options are becoming problematic for people.
There are currently 3 control options.
1) Native onscreen controller support. DS4 pairing to iOS is not supported and likely never will be by Apple.
2) MFI certified controllers are confirmed working. Current best option seems to be the Rotor Riot as it supports L3/R3 here
3) Work around DS4 support. Only works with DS4 distance to PS4. Log into DS4 as a second user and connect via Remote Play as a different user.

@son-goku7523: Sony is doing the same with PS Now. Its you dont need a xbox console but the option is there cause MS will still make hardware. I for one will still want to play natively on xbox hardware and then use a device like a Switch to play my games remotely when not able to use the console. People forget that these MS Services will make it easier to access and play your games on other devices/platforms.
No they aren't.
PS Now isn't available on the Switch or Xbox and PS Now doesn't get new PS4 games like GamePass does.
That’s correct. Both of which are business decisions. Switch actually uses some android os code mixed with their own custom kernel, but Sony already has had multiple android apps for PSNow so it’s not a technical hurdle.
That the whole point!?. Microsoft it look to do new thing with brand. It why people is saying Xbox system it dead.
any console gamer that wants to play Xbox games natively (without streaming) will purchase an Xbox console.. particularly if they have a 4KTV and want to get the most out of it..
So please explain to me why YOU think the Xbox system is "dead" despite this obvious fact.. and no, not "why people saying".. if you want to actually contribute to this conversation, what is YOUR opinion?..
If xCloud is wildly successful on multiple platforms why would they make their own hardware just like Netflix isn’t making a Netflix box. Basically this looks just like every other business of theirs which is to sell primarily as a service. It’s the same process windows Phone underwent. MS started releasing more and more apps and software for iOS and android until they finally stopped supporting the few remaining Windows phone left. It’s not exactly cheap or easy to roll out a new console against competitors each year and why would they, or rather why would they try very hard on the console space if they have 100 million devices that already run it without them investing millions in rolling out their own console. People forget that MS had always had a dream of Xbox as a multi manufacturer platform similar to 3DO.
because there's obviously still a healthy console market.. and in order to satisfy console gamers, Microsoft needs to have their own console hardware.. it's really just that simple..
If you listen to Phil, he knows you cant have all this extra stuff without satisfying the core audience.. You can't do "TV TV TV, APPS, TV" without bringing what gamers want first.. That's the hard lesson they learned at the beginning of this gen.. and you can't rely solely on a streaming service like XCloud without having a strong foundation of physical hardware at it's core..
now if XCloud is wildly successful to the point where noone cares whether or not Microsoft continues to make physical hardware anymore because XCloud is just that damn great, you can GUARANTEE that Sony and Nintendo won't be far behind in the effort to stop making consoles as well.. so the point is rather moot overall..
No console HARDWARE is not a healthy market. Many consoles are sold at a lost for years before they even turn a profit. Switching to a subscription model of multiple hardware platforms means they are 1000x less dependent on being competitive in the console space and hardware will be sold at a premium rather than a loss.
Microsoft and was already moving in this direction. Xbox One was supposed to be online only by a sub like Gamepass and Xcloud would basically require it. Even after the fact the Xbox One was still more money for a less powerful system and something like this would only indicate a repeat. Xcloud and game pass means MS can sell the “premium” experience at a higher premium cost. It’s great for most vast Majority that play 720/1080P@30fps but high end consoles are going to be pricey just like all MS hardware. Just look at the surface line of devices.
