If you're wondering about the reason for the blue swirl on PAL consoles/accessories, from what I hear its due to another company in Europe having a patent on a similar swirl in orange - forcing Sega to use an alternative colour for the logo on hardware in that region.

I'm of the opinion that the blue swirl looks better, anyway but I guess in reality it was planned to be orange universally.

I have a similar monitor (E2200HD) and can vouch for its quality. Very good picture and games run well on it, as for the keyboard problem I'd go for an older Microsoft product as they always seem to make good keyboards in my experience.

Something along these lines wouldn't be too bad, unless you want an all singing all dancing gaming keyboard with over a thousand LEDs

Don't spend a fortune on the CPU for a gaming PC. Try get as good a graphics card as you possibly can, even if it means you'd end up with a Core 2 Duo.GhoX

I would never advise going socket 775 in a new gaming PC nowadays. It is so much more cost-effective to go AM3, and future-proof to boot.

Don't want to sound like an arse, but they're both crap! AMDs laptop offerings just don't cut it IMO.

I would go for the £479 Dell Studio 15 from this page:
http://www1.euro.dell.com/content/products/features.aspx/laptops_great_deals?c=uk&l=en&s=dhs&cs=ukdhs1&~ck=mn

Comes with a core i3, 3GB of RAM and 4570 GFX. Pretty good value for your £480!

Core 2 Duo architecture is now quite old, if it were me I'd go for the other one posted in this thread from newegg; as others noted it's a bargain. If you're dead set on one of the three you originally specified I think the Samsung is the best of the bunch, i5 + 330M is a pretty decent combo.

I've had my logitech mx518 for as long as I can remember and it's by no means the most expensive mouse you can buy but it's been a really good piece of kit for years now. Movements are so smooth and I found myself using switch-able DPI buttons more than I first expected. As well as these, the additional side buttons are useful for binding in game and are useful for web navigation (Back/Forward) out of game. I love it.

If you're serious about FPS games, a gaming mouse definately will make a difference, where-as a keyboard probably won't - I just have an old white microsoft keyboard as I like the feel and feedback of the keys!

In an effort to avoid repeating too much of what has already been said I'll keep it short :P

They are excellent CPUs for the price you pay, I'm currently running a 955 at 3.4 GHz and it's fantastic. I'm not interested in folding or video encoding so I guess an i7 would be a waste of money. For my gaming & programming needs the Phenom II is all I'll need for the forseeable.

This looks like a pretty good system if you want to increase your budget I would recemend a macbook pro gmaster456

I thought as much... I do like the look of macbooks too, but just a bit too expensive for me based on my current circumstances!

As for the m11x, unfortunately it starts at £750 here in the UK (~$1170) which, again is too much.

Thanks for the suggestions though guys.

If it's a brand new item, why not send it back for a replacement?

I've decided that a netbook just isn't for me (atoms just have no balls) and I want a notebook replacement. I'm currently looking at the Dell Inspiron 13z, and it looks like a decent spec for the money:

Intel Core 2 Duo SU7300 1.3 GHz
3GB DDR3 RAM
320GB 7200RPM HDD
Nvidia G105M
8-cell battery (up to 11 hrs)
Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit

Total price: £479 (£466 with EPP discount).

Just thought I'd see if anyone else has a better suggestion before I go ahead with the order. I'm not bothered about games really... might play the occasional bit of peggle, but I have my desktop for other stuff. I want to do some light programming on it as well as the other obvious tasks (web browsing, taking notes etc). A device with long battery life is desirable but not essential and I definitely don't want a machine with a screen bigger than 13/14in.

BTW, I'm in the UK if that wasn't obvious from the device listed so please take that into consideration :), budget is around £500.

Thanks!
