I would suggest maybe something with a ATI 4650m or a GT 240m Though I dont have experience with the 240m. [QUOTE="mrmyles"]

It's the top end of your budget but I think worth the money for sureToshiba Satellite A505-S6020; comes with an i5 CPU and nVidia 310M.

Whilst there's currently no image available on newegg, I was able to find this video which is pretty in depth.

Thats a cIass3 card though =

It's around the same performance level of the 4570 which the OP was originally interested in. T'will handle source games absolutely no problem, and you get a beefier processor to boot. Just my opinion anywho.

Just a quick suggestion on the CPU fan front, if it were me I'd opt for the Noctua NH-U12P SE2. It's very quiet, thanks to the two high quality 120mm fans it includes and the thermal results are pretty damn impressive. Probably works out cheaper or roundabout the same as the Megahalems since you don't need to buy additional fan(s).

Rest of the build looks pretty solid to me, although if you're concerned with cable neatness you might want to contemplate a modular PSU which will obviously eliminate a lot of the unnecessary wiring.

CPU sounds about right, my 955 clocked at 3.4GHz takes 20.4 seconds on 1m super pi. That RAM usage does seem strange though, have you tried to run a mem86? If not, that would be my first course of action.

I too would recommend the Asus Crosshair III as it's the board my systems currently running on. I can't say a bad thing about it - it's a really great piece of kit and comes with some rather nice extras (sound card, LED poster). At the end of the day though, it really depends on the budget you've set a side as the Crosshair is probably the most expensive AM3 board you can buy atm.

If you did decide that it was just too many pennies I would still recommend Asus as a brand primarily due to their reputation as a reliable manufacturer as well as their product support; which is second to none in my experience. This board (http://www.ebuyer.com/product/172846) is good bang for buck at under £90 and reviews state that it will work fine with the 965 out of the box.

Oh yeah I hadn't noticed that you also recommended the MSI board, that's probably one of the best options if its in price-range.

Otherwise I don't think there's anything wrong with opting for a 790x chipset mobo - definitely better than opting for the DFI board imo. You do lose some PCI-E bandwidth but it's not the end of the world from a performance perspective and preferable to getting a board that's going tocompromise your entire system.

I love the SNES. I'm 20 so the NES was just a little bit early to leave a lasting impression on me.

I did also enjoy the cube, for what it's worth but the N64 wasn't a patch on the playstation in my opinion.

I run a similar system on the same PSU (OCZ 600W StealthXStream) with a Phenom II 955 & HD4890 and it's never given me a problem, it's been a very stable piece of kit for me. The thing that I did find strange though is that mine has both 6 pin & 6+2 pin PCI-e cables yet you mentioned that wasn't the case with yours?

Alas, good luck with the build!

I think it looks a cracking laptop if you're not planning on gaming and don't need portability - the i5 should be pretty nippy.

The only thing that would concern me is no word of screen resolution (unless I'm being silly), I'd try and find that out from another source cause you don't want to go spending that amount of money if things are going to look poor.
