Metal Warriors I would like too. It slipped under the radar but it was still a great game and difficult.Dark_Link142

I mostly want it for the Multiplayer. It was like Smash Bros for the SNES. I loved it.

PS3 - Way too expensive - and I hear they recently took away the biggest impetus for me to buy it. Until they restore Reverse-compatibility, I'm not even going to consider buying this system. They'll eventually re-release all the good games that come out for this console, so I'm not going to get ripped off this generation.

X-Box 360 - It's Microsoft, that means it's gonig to have corner cut problems. It has ALWAYS meant that. I'd be using a different operating system and I'd replace microsoft office if it wasn't so dang convenient that it's what everyone else uses. That said though, I'd almost buy this system because all the PS3 games are threatening to come over here.

It's a shame that these two systems are the only ones who are truly progressing the graphic power of gaming.

Wii - Sure, it's a great novelty, but because the system really doesn't build on the last generation's power, the greats like Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil, and Final Fantasy won't be visiting this system. One of the biggest parts of those franchises is that their latest games are state-of-the-art. Wii is an excellent party system, and that said I'll be buying it for that purpose. But as for epic storylines and single player goodness, I doubt this system will produce anything beyond Nintendo's main titles (Which have been a little too easy for me for a long time.)

I'm actually thinking about giving up gaming entirally, at least until this generation sorts itself out. We'll see how things pan out in the next two years, but for now, it's not looking too good.

Most wanted first:

Illusion of Gaia(SNES)

Soul Blazer(SNES)

Terranigma(SNES)

I'm a big fan of the Soul Blazer series.

I find it mildly amusing that Majora's Mask isn't on your list when the mask is your icon.

A lot of people still have their N64 and still have it hooked up.

I suppose, but it's much more convenient to have one system, you know? If it came out othe Wii, there really wouldn't be any reason for me to keep the N64 (Especially since the Wii version would have a better framerate.)

Well someone with a stack of games may not want to spend $10 a pop just to have the on their main console and plus with your save files are on your originals... thats why I never got OOT on the virtual console even though its one of my favorites of all time.

A little research would show that you could sell OOT for $15 on E-Bay or Amazon, and then buy it for $10 on the Wii. Profit.

But then, if you're not into that much work, suit yourself.

As for save files, if I'm going to play OOT again, I'll probably start from scratch and get all the secrets all over again. I don't really see any reason to hanging out with full hearts with nothing left to do. I've deleted old files several times to replay games. That's just me though.

My N64 will actually be on Amazon soon as a package, with all the good games, hopefully targeting a budget gamer. Even if I lose a little from getting all my old games on the Virtual Console, I think it's a small price to pay for organization.

"I must have this game! It's super rare!"

"Don't sell thatgame! It's super rare!"

Honestly folks, there isn't such a thing as "rare software" unless it wasn't really worth playing in the first place. Even if it's some old PC game you can usually find it on the internet now, and most of the time the copy is perfectly legal.

Hording games you aren't playing or even intend to play within the next two years is silly. You could sell these "Rare games" now and eventually -and it WILL happen -it will be re-released again.

Yes ChronoTrigger was ported over to the PS1 and yes it runs better on the SNES, but it WILL be rereleased in the future, and the newer port will likely run more smoothly, and will likely have extra features too. Even if it's not Rereleased by Squaresoft itself, eventually the Copyright will wear out and you'll see legal fan releases all over the place.

I sold my copy of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night recently because you know what? I'm not going to play it again, at least for a long time. There are other games to play and really it's just rotting on my shelf otherwise.

I can understand keeping games you play often, but the collector attitude I see in some gamers is simply irrational. You're not any better because you own a large number of games. Really you're just a pack rat who is keeping people who haven't played your classics before from seeing them now before it's finally released on some other medium.

earthbound

chrono trigger

i could die happy if they were all on the VC

dreamachine

I forgot Earthbound.

I wouldn't mind seeing CT, but I don't have my hopes up too high for that one. Square seems to have its own agenda when it comes to re-releasing thier products.

What games would you most like to see on the virtual console?

MyPersonalTop 5 would be (In order of desire):

Mario RPG ([SNES]Square/Nintendo)

Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask ([N64]Nintendo)

Demon Crest ([SNES] Capcom)

Metal Warriors ([SNES]Konami/Lucas Arts)

Mario Party 2 ([N64]Nintendo) (I think this is the only good Mario Party produced.)

Nostalgia can still be a powerful thing. For someone new to gaming, will these games really impress? It's really hard to say. Pac-man is a really influential game in the history of video games, but I'm not interested in playing it today. I had fun playing the Championship demo from Xbox Live Arcade, but not enough to buy it and play it for more than one session.bacchus2

That's the most difficult factor in deciding what is truly "Timeless".

A lot of gamers popped up when the X-Box came out - I don't know if it was the X-Box specifically that did it, but I remember it was around that time that Games started becoming more socially acceptable where I lived. I guess you could say that for some people, Graphics is what got finally got them into gaming; the Cartoonish or 16 bit style just never appealed to them before.

But then again, after they've gotten past the gate,I still think there are probably some old games they'd still enjoy.

I guess a better question is; Are there games that you didn't play when they were in the sunlight, and you fell in love with them now?

MGS2 was like that for me, in spite of all the bad that was said about it, I played it almost five years after it came out and it got me to buy the whole series and even try out the NES versions. (In speaking of the NES versions of that game however, because of the ambiguity of what you need to do next, or even what you can do in some places, I really couldn't reccommend playing them for anything but to see the roots of the game.)

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night was another one. It was a long while after that came out that a friend of mine reccomended it to me. Now I have several other Castlevania games as a result. I still wouldn't put it on my list of "Timeless" though because in my opinion, to the denial of all the fans out there, there are many Castlevania games and they are all similar enough that one could easilly replace the other.
