In the Uk not supporting the NHS lost Churchill an election despite just winning the second world war.

I think it shows the gulf in thinking beetween the people of the two countries.

We need health care reform, but not the type, Obama is talking about. The goverment isn't the best organization to handel that.

[QUOTE="muff07"][QUOTE="Engrish_Major"] Yeah! Except for the military, FDA, DOJ, FAA and BBB keeping us safe, the FHA building us highways, the EPA and NPS keeping our country beautiful, the DOE giving us education, and the post office allowing me to send a letter across the country for 42 cents, inventing the internet, the jet engine, and nuclear power, the government has never solved anyting!Chaos_HL21

The internet was invented by a Briton.

Al Gore was british? I didn't know that. ;)

There was section of the Gadget Show about how the man who was project leader (Insert name as I can't find it) made a breakthrough in relation to the internet and instead of patoning the idea gifted it to the world.

But the Gadget Show has spewed out some doggy information in the past (The show first detailing HD Tv's was shambolic)

[QUOTE="collegeboy64"]

The other major difference between the US and Canada/UK is: we are free citizens of a representative democracy. Canadiens and Brits are subjects of the Crown.

collegeboy64

Ah yes, the Crown is simply evil incarnate. Never before have my eyes gazed on such an evil tyrant who joys in the oppression of her constituents.

I was not saying the Crown is evil. I like the Queen. She seems like a very class act. Her subjects are lucky to have such a decent monarch.

My point is: Citizens of the U.S.A. enjoy a great deal more freedom than our Canadian and UK counterparts. The cost of our freedom is supposed to be responsibility for ourselves.

You realize thats completly wrong.

The queen gets one vote, much like every other person in the country on who she wishes to elect as a member of parliment, she has no role in the House of commons or house of lords and is just a figure head to represent a commonwealth.

THe queen only still exists as a tourist attraction, for making foreign dignatorys feel welcome/visiting the poor/opening hospitals and the like, and to give an honour to those that have achieved something of recognition or praise (Knighthoods, MBE's. etc.).

In all honesty can you point out any way in which an American citizenis more free than a British or Canadian counterpart? Because I don't think you would be able to outside the ability to obtain a gun.

The NHS is the most important of all British institutions. The greatest political development of the last century. The Americans would be lucky to have something similar.

This just reinforces my opinion that Republican Americans are tubes, especially the ones who wave plaquards.

Throughout the entire incident I've decided however I like Sarah Palin, She comes with a comedy factor over her being so incredibly stupid. I mean she called the NHS 'evil' yes healthcare for everyone is evil, not school shootings caused by Americas gun policy, not China's view on human rights, Not the humanitarian situation in Zimbabwe but the NHS. How dare those poor people be allowed to live.

People decide to become british for this very reason. My problem is the NHS isnt NHS'T enough. Bring freedental to over 18's!

vigoureuxEVIL5

It's free to any over 18 in permenant education (I get it free as a student) it's also partially subsidised by the Nhs (Around 60% of the bill is covered by the Nhs so long as its required treatment, eg they subsadise fillings etc but not teeth whitening).

The Dental plan in Britian is far worse than the Hospitals despite being partialy privitised.

Also I'd like to point out...

Our current prime Minister had his sight saved by the Nhs (Rugby accident in school). The oppositions leader had a severly Disabled and criticaly ill child (Whilst a back bencher) treated on the Nhsfor many years.

Make what you will of that, they have the money to pay for insurance but they don't.

Any British politician no matter how right wing that person may be would never try to dismantle the NHs.

An attmept to do so would end up in mass public movements against it.

We might complain about the Nhs and say it needs improved (Would every healthcare system not be better if it was improved?) But we want it reformed not dismantled. The Nhs is run on 1949 legislation that needs updating.
