Hilarious. So less than 13million downloads over a dozen games over several months time. Deduct from that people that end up buying the game when they like it, decide to buy it for multiplayer, and those that never would have purchased the game in the first place, and what you have left is a fraction of that 13million divided by each of the games studied. Now compare that to how many people by and large buy the game, and the huge profits the game industry rakes in regularly.
I'm not saying piracy is okay, it's not okay to steal something. On the other hand, this proves the industry is run by sods over-inflating the facts in attempt to appeal to the decency of people that actually do give a damn about them. Nevermind that this isn't like stealing food, or something physical that can't be replaced, but an idea that can be replicated an infinite amount of times thanks to digital distribution.
At this point, I'm pretty fed up with people on both sides of the issue. I'm tired of publishers using 'piracy' to push DRM and higher prices on people, and I'm tired of people thinking they can get something for nothing. Tear the whole industry down, burn the remains and start fresh with new ideas and a better perspective.
This is a smart move. It's unlikely to go much higher if higher at all with the state of the industry. He's either doing one of two things; buying low and selling high, or getting off a sinking ship. Either way, I'd expect others to follow suit, if they know what's good for them
I believe it, and I think anyone denying the desensitization factor of violent entertainment is living in a fantasy world. That said, I stand by the latter half of what the study says as well, that this does NOT prove a link to violent behavior.
For me personally, I've lost a lot of family and friends to various circumstances, from disease to war, in my short time in this world. This loss has desensitized me more than a little; I'm pessimistic, I have trust issues, and I tend to keep people at arm's length. That does not however, mean I want to hurt people, don't care about people, or have forgotten the difference between right and wrong. You get used to the thing you have to deal with on a regular basis, be that in the real world or a virtual one, but that doesn't mean you wish it on others.
I admit it. I thought SR3 was great. Still had some poignant moments of the previous games but had a much freer tone, and stopped taking itself so seriously. SR3 was a step in the right direction IMO, and I'm looking forward to SR4
@xeoneex66 You don't want background checks for gun control to make it easy for you to get your guns. Well, guess what? Those Boston bombers now having a shootout with police had an easy time getting their guns, too.
Meanwhile in console land, the war rages over backwards compatibility, always-on DRM, sony vs microsoft exclusives, and overpriced consoles with online passes.
