If you don't understand by now that this has larger implications than just Jeff, then you've missed the point.
Although you seem to have heard of it, you don't seem to understand what it means, the first amendment is meant to protect you from the goverment, meaning you can say anything about the goverment without fear of penalty. This does not apply to a private corperation such as Gamespot, which does have the right to fire workers based on almost anything it wants. Oh, and if you would honestly keep people on staff who were causing you to run the risk of losing large amounts of mony, then you have no business sence at all.Honesty in journalism or criticism should not be affected by business. Probably nothing illegal went down and the Amendment probably wasn't the right thing to bring up, but your nitpicking doesn't make the point less valid, and it certainly doesn't make Jeff's ****canning any better.
So nit picking and explaining how the first amendment does not apply how you have said it does?Wow, this type of thinking is blatently anti business at best, you're basically saying that any journalist, anywhere at anytime should not face penalties by his private employer. Journalists can be very damaging to an employer if they say certain things, and that can cost money, something you seem to be missing. Even in the situation with Jeff, a company was threatening to pull advertisments, something that would have cost GS money, so I would say they were right to do so. What if Jeff had just ranted about how he hates black people for 6 minutes? You're implying that he should be protected in any case right? I'm sure you're going to say no to that, and that just shows inconsistant bias, meaning you just pick and choose what you think should and shouldn't be said, having nothing to do with your misunderstanding of the freedom of speech.
