It'll be interesting to see what the Germans has to say about this.
I can understand why consumers would want to sell their licenses to other to gain a couple of Euros, but in my opinion it has to be done in a way where the developers can gain something from it. After all, I do believe the developers have the right to get some money for each person that purchase their game.
I mean, I'm all for getting games cheaper, but I also want to support the developer/publisher (which goes hand-in-hand except for indie-games).
One alternative could be to be able to "sell back" the game to Steam, gaining some in-store credit. Next purchase could be for another developer, but the same goes for other people (they "trade in" another game and buy the game you had). Since used digital goods have the exact same quality as a new digital goods, this is probably one of the best ways to deal with it.
Another alternative could be to use the Steam Marketplace to sell games. Although this would benefit the one purchasing the game for less money, it would never let the developer get barely any money (unless Steam change their fee to be higher).
Now, on a serious note, I really don't get all the hate both PC and console gamers have for other platforms. Sure, PC's have the better graphics, framerates, alternatives when it comes to controllers/joysticks/etc. and can also be used while on the couch with your friends playing split-screen games.
What PC's don't (currently, MIGHT (or might not) change) have is the same amount of accessibility (as in, put the disc in/download, play) and optimization that consoles have.
Bottom line, just pick a system (or several) and be happy with it. There's no need to defend your purchase as each platform has its own pro's and con's.
By pirating the game you only tell the developers one thing; It's enjoyable and worth playing but you don't want to pay.
If you want to make a statement, don't play the game at all.
If it's worth playing, it's worth buying. There's no "middleground" where it's "okay" to pirate the game because you disagree with only some of the choices the developers have made or feel "hurt" because they don't include high-res textures or take advantage of the superior power PC's have.
Sure, it sucks that they don't optimize the PC version and take advantage of what it's capable of, but that's no reason to pirate the game.
@Xoxen101 Finally, someone who said they got bored of WoW. The game isn't even that good, it's mostly because people think they've invested too much money and time to stop playing (which is a stupid argument) and those that are "stuck" because their friends are (and their guild which might make a great community).
So thank you! There's still hope for MMO-gamers! :P
@Ijustbeatya That doesn't change the fact that if you want to make a point and make sure the developers will know that you don't tolerate these things, your only choice of making that point is by not playing it at all.
It doesn't matter how many games you've bought previously, if you pirate this game it'll still how in the statistics that you enjoy the game but won't pay.
I'm not saying you shouldn't download the game first to try it out, especially with no PC demo (although I don't condone piracy), I'm just saying -- if it's worth playing, it's worth buying.
@Ijustbeatya Err, no. Pirating a game doesn't mean you don't like what they're doing -- it means you like what they're doing but just don't want to pay for it.
If you want to make a point, don't play it at all.
@marting265 @pawel04 @nu1mlock I just wanted to add a thing about prices of games.
In Sweden, new console releases are usually priced at 699kr (about 69€), while I purchase most of my Steam and Origin games a lot cheaper. I usually buy 3 copies (one for me and two for friends) of every game and I buy them on Steam for about 100-200kr (10-20€) each. I get my three copies for less than one console copy.
Those that I can't buy for that cheap, well, they're 30€ tops.
I'm, of course talking about day-one releases or pre-purchases. Waiting for sales would make it a whole lot cheaper.
