Para, my dilemma is—- what will happen with games that need massive updates if the updates are being taken down?

That’s the reason i’m starting to figure that the, “it will be taken down at some point” factor of digital downloads, isn’t much worse of a prob than if significant updates are no longer available

Now, i understand your point. If that were the case for me, i’d prob end up keeping both. Once the older system dies, the games end up dropping in value anyway

@vaidream45: i’m pretty sure the purchase history is stored in your ps store account. So as long as the store/host is up, i think it’s fine. If you’re selling a system you can wipe the drive of the old one and redownload the games to your current console based on your purchase history in your account. If for some reason the service is pulled, it appears you’ll be stuck, though. My point is that, if things were shutdown for whatever reason, i don’t know how people would get updates either, which could be a big problem. Unless there is a solution i’m unaware of. Btw, i love your username if it is in reference to the great steve vai.

Vfighter, i am aware of that but aren't patches that are 10-30gb doing something significant?

Your point is very valid that they may not be required but i’d expect large ones to be ar least somewhat significant?

Main thing that kept me buying physical copies until the ps4 is the fact if for any reason hosting was taken offline and my system were to crash, i’d be screwed.

Thing about it now is that i have several physical games that required 10 to 30gb updates upon installation. If those updates are ever taken offline, and my system crashed i’m equally as screwed when it comes to reinstallation. Unless the 30 gb updates aren’t as critical as their sizes would indicate.

Honestly, it worries me a bit. My main reason for staying physical is fading

Golden eye and mario kart were amazing on n64. For me, that was the era i put in the most hours. Also spent a lot of time playing games such as mario bros, tetris, and a little later - sonic. Also went through an early FPS phase, wanting to play violent games like doom and duke nukem.

It’s really hard to pick one era.

The popularity and reception of the nintendo switch indicates that quality games (and functional versatility) are more important to a lot of people than graphics, state of the art hardware or even volume of games.

I agree with most of the sentiment here. I have considered getting an xbox but 99% of the games i’m interested in are avail on the ps4. State of the art hardware (as far as consoles goes) is great, but only if you have good games to play on it. I see no reason to buy multiple formats of the same games for marginal improvements.

@2Chalupas: i only play like an hour or two at a time. That’s how i define my “fine.” I always charge my controllers after use anyway, which is another reason our standards, expectations and needs seem to be different.
