I don’t use pc gaming because it can get really expensive to keep up with top of the line. I used to game on pc but i ended up ruining my computer because of a mixture of too many installs and eventually malware. I’ve toyed with the idea of getting a pc exclusively for games and refraining from internet surfing but i think the temptation would still be there.
My biggest gripe with pc gaming is that after a year maybe even less, i would be watching latest release specs so closely, anticipating how long it will be until i need to throw more money into my rig or running the risk of overpowering my setup by trying to run stuff it can’t handle. Sort of like anticipating a death.
If i knew how to do my own hardware mods or had a bunch of money to pay someone to keep modifying my pc every couple months, and had the patience to learn and troubleshoot, and knowing when to do to it so i can significantly upgrade my gaming experience overtime, i would consider going the pc route.
For me, though, while consoles are not as advanced and powerful as top of the line pcs, i feel more comfortable using them rather than constantly not knowing the signifigance an md appropriate time for upgrading specific components of a pc.
The xbox one x is prized at being 40% more powerful than any other gaming console (obviously not pc). If a pc boasted such a spec (being 40% more powerful than any other pc), i’d be all into it. I’d be thinking it’s a critical upgrade if i want to stay ahead of the pack (and if i invest $2-5k into a gaming pc, i will want to upgrade to stay above the pack). Honestly, though, perhaps i’m not as observant or critical as some other gamers, but visually i’m not as stunned by what i’ve seen of the upgrade at this point. I would have expected more visually, from a sheer specs perspective.
Personally, given the amount of time and money it would take to have someone who knows what they’re doing perform the upgrade, i don’t think i would be able to justify sinking large sums of money into upgrades that may disapoint.
Don’t get me wrong xbox people, if i had the money, and wanted a new console, i’d definitely consider a one x. My problem with upgrading a pc on such terms is that there are so many variables to upgrade, it’s hard to quantify what adding 40% to B will do to overall C. I like having an idea of what i’m getting with an upgrade.
At least with console differences, there is always a basis for comparison.
The other reason i’m not huge on pc is that there are currently not many (if any) series equivilent to Mario, Zelda or crash Bandicoot on pc that i am aware of.
If i had more money, i’d probably invest in a pc to game on as well as consoles. PC’s strength and power alone is not enough to entice me to game on them exclusively at this point. Things are changing, though. Many of the points i just tried to make may not be true in a few years.
I don’t know what to say to your friend except that he is lucky to have both and agree to disagree.
