Well, the follow-on question, then, would be...what does accessing the "Spire" allow you to do?

Or maybe we should just know that?

Destiny will give me the hours of enjoyment to warrant the purchase. But, there are some elements of the game that have worn thin on me quickly. The first one being the stupid platforming elements that they've put in the game. I don't understand why they do this. The "mario death chime" rings in my head when I've missed that platform due to an untimely or miscalculated jump. I'm only on my second playthrough of the campaign, so I'm sure it'll be fine as I become more familiar with the environments. But it's a tedium that is very arbitrary and unnecessary. Overall, I think the level design is absolute RUBBISH.

It's a solid shooter and they've definitely made improvements in other areas, so I'm pleased with those parts of the game. I'm still not so sure it will keep me engaged enough to bother with the DLC (at least initially), which was the case for the first game.

Story was a substantial improvement! And this time I just felt more invested (and clued in) with what was going on, furthermore, I've been enjoying my second playthrough. I still feel there are some "head-scratcher" moments. So, I'm trying to piece some of that together with my second playthrough.

@lunatech: Yo, calm down there snowflake! It's OK to have a difference in opinion...no sense in getting your panties all in a bunch over it. You're absolutely right, I don't have to spend money on it. And you don't have to read comments that you're going to get so offended over that you feel the need to raise your heart rate over it. Did someone forget to tell you that you were special this morning or something?

1) Shaders are just pixel crack, right? So, why the fuss.

2) Bungie are greedy bastards if they're charging real money for this pixel crack. If their argument is "you'll find more than enough of them in the world through play", then why would they even feel the need to charge real money for them?

3) Anyone who DOES pay real-world money for this crap? You're part of this (ongoing) problem.

I bought the first one and enjoyed it well enough...I felt like I got my money's worth there. Never bought the DLC on initial release, but did go back and pick up the Destiny Collection (on sale). And didn't get very far there (only because I just didn't give myself enough time to play through all of it before Destiny 2 came out).

I was going to hold off for a week or two before buying Destiny 2, but...peer pressure is a mutha-f**ka. So, I jumped in and I have to say I'm very much impressed with my first four hours in-game. I'm expecting that to continue, and once I find the time to hop on with friends, then I'll probably enjoy it that much more.

While I was skeptical of the game, I have been pleasantly surprised. We'll see if that continues after 40+ hours and running up multiple characters. I've never been a fan of DLC, so that will probably continue with this game. I feel like the base game has provided a continuum with the first and will build upon it further. I feel like I'm invested with the characters this time around too! So, I expect to get more hours of enjoyment out of it.

The fact that I got an exotic engram at level 7 made my heart rate jump with enthusiasm too. (As I've talked with friends, that's a fairly common thing to happen, apparently)

@Mogan: Fair enough. But when you compare the loot mechanic and the grind to, say, The Division (which is very similar) or Diablo 3 (not very similar) those games still allow you the ability to acquire the top tier gear through various single-player aspects of the game. So, I guess I just need to stick with "those games". :) The ROI for Destiny got to be nil as you progressed over time if you preferred a single-player experience.

It's not necessarily about "needing" the top tier gear in the game, it's feeling like there is some motivation for playing by participating in and benefiting from the loot grind. In Diablo 3, I can get a Set Gear drop once or twice an hour. In contrast, I could play Destiny for dozens of hours, and not get a legendary to drop. (At least that was my recollection) Maybe we've got the "loot cave exploit" to thank for that? I don't know.

@Salt_AU: Kinetic (D2) = Primaries (D1). Primary weapons in Destiny didn't ever have elemental damage, with the exception of a rare few Exotics that did. If you ever wanted to do Solar, Arc, etc. you had to switch to your secondary or heavy (D1). My initial read of the article seemed to indicate this hadn't changed. I have just re-read the section above, and it seems it is slightly different, but it wasn't clear to me previously.

That way this reads, the reviewer has some rose-colored glasses on!

Adventures sound like nothing more than Exotic Bounties (in a sense). They're nothing more than a series of bounties, or patrol missions.

Talking about weapon changes. Huh?? Primary = Kinetic, Secondary = Energy, and Heavy = Power. How can you seriously say that you NEVER played the original Destiny with this same playstyle of swapping weapons based on taking advantage of their "elemental" properties?!? The way this person has explained it, it's EXACTLY the same as the first game!

I don't hold out a lot of hope for this game...and I'm definitely waiting to read reviews and talk to others that are playing it. The loot aspect of Destiny is what became frustrating for me. Locking good gear behind multiplayer aspects of the game is a huge turn-off for me. I don't want to have to rely on that to continue finding worthwhile gear, or to obtain the materials to be able to customise/modify my gear.

Here's my "read between the lines" on this news: Microsoft was hoping they could just "mail this one in"; but then they realised that they owe their customer-base something better. If they don't deliver a higher quality gaming experience, it very well could be the nail in the coffin for them this generation - regardless of Scorpio! I'm still skeptical that this game will even be released, honestly. MS has been digging their own grave since the start of this generation...and I really don't think there's much they can do to recover.
