@MaP_Hagmen i think the point people are trying to make is that it is ridiculous that information through the kinect will be available to advertisers. that means targeted ads specific to the information gathered by the camera. hence they are annoyed that all this hardware is centered around advertising and data gathering while the sole focus should be on providing the best possible gaming solution at the best possible price.
@pspearman @outlawoftorn there are plenty of free2play games which are much better than paid games. take planetside 2 for example, an exemplary MMO shooter. there are others such as blacklight retribution which are quite decent as well. although most of these will be ps4 exclusives, if xbox removes its paywall it will be an incentive for more great f2p titles to come to consoles. right now only ps4 is offering a conducive f2p environment.
and yes i agree that people wont buy a console for f2p games, but given the scenario that you get hooked onto a great f2p online shooter and are playing it for a month or so, you wouldnt want to pay for gold just so you can play a free game. and it would always be nice to have the option of playing a nice online shooter if your gold has expired and aren't ready to renew it yet.
@Blu3V3nom07 @Gamerhomer if it does then at least we know for sure they wont be targeted ads which work by gathering your info. there is no mandatory camera requirement.
add to this the fact that microsoft requires a subscription to play free to play games, something which is unheard of. so you pay for a subscription and then you also put up with ads. plus you also payed quite a bit for the hardware. that is just not cool.
@Blu3V3nom07 @sacatash well going by current generation sony only advertises games for download...and that too not on the main dashboard. if it sticks to its philosophy then there wont be any ads.
@Nexrad the problem is with the vision MS has. they keep talking about TV, advertisements etc and they top all of that with a mandatory camera. While Sony may certainly include ads, they keep their focus on games and never talk about peripheral stuff.
the vision you give to consumers matters, as it tells them where this product will be going in the future and how many resources the company will devote to such features. MS seems to be focused too much on the periphery and very little at the core gaming experience.
@aci808 they need at least a 100 dollar price drop for people to buy it just for their games. zelda is awesome but at 349 its hard to go there instead of a PS or Xbox.
why did nintendo decide to create a release cycle of its own? if it had kept itself with the PS and Xbox release cycle and released comparable hardware then we would have great competition and maybe better products across the board.
the wii was something new which attracted casual gamers and thus sold well. the wii u doesnt introduce the same kind of gameplay revolution and with only current generation hardware its hard to see what nintendo was thinking releasing it in 2012 with the console cycle about to end.
@tigress666 @outlawoftorn @ALCHEMISTx24x7 yes those are there, but I didnt consider them to be advertisements. as long as it is for games then its more like information.
i completely agree. thats what is off-putting about microsoft. they have tv-like ads in their interface even though they charge you. they definitely have all the motives (and hardware) to use your info for targeted ads.
