I used to get this quite a lot, when I did I'd just fiddle with it for a bit, like logging out of PSN and quitting the game, turning the console off then back on again and logging back in to PSN. I think that used to sort it, and if that didn't then I'd just log out of PSN and play something else for half an hour or so, then go back on CoD and log into PSN again.

I always found CoD4 to be a bit fussy like this, but I've never known it to happen on CoD:WaW... funny that.

Hope that helps!

I actually think I'll go for LBP then... I've been meaning to get it for a while, and it'll be cheaper than importing something I'm not sure of.

Now I just need to get the wages I'm owed tomorrow! Then everything will fall into place!

Oh make no mistake I WILL be getting Killzone 2, at some point. The demo was mightily impressive. But the last 5-6 games I've bought were shooters! So if I find myself getting bored of one, I haven't really got an alternative. I could get Afrika on import and then Killzone 2 the following month.

Yeah I'm getting Flower too! It looks amazing!

It would be cool if the game does get released over here. I'm just worried that as amazing as Killzone's graphics and physics are, the game will bore me once I've finished the campaign. Whether I play through it twice, or play online, its still the same making stuff go boom. I felt like a radical change.

Hello!

Someone made a thread about 'Heavy Rain', where someone raised a rather good point about a lot of mainstream games being shoot'em ups. I had a look at my game collection and realised that they all involve killing! Surely that can't be healthy!

The poster also mentioned some story-driven titles that are available to import, namely Aquanaut's Holiday and Afrika (Hakuna Matata). I did a little bit of research I they both look very good, very pretty, interesting concepts, something that I could spend time leisurely exploring as opposed to making things go boom.

I looked up both Aquanaut's Holiday and Afrika, and on www.play-asia.com they're both available in an English/Chinese version. Overall I think Afrika looked better, and its a little cheaper at approx. £32. Now I know that Sony-published titles are region-free so I should have no trouble running it on my console in the UK, but I'm still a little bit apprehensive of importing, and I've got a few questions first.

Firstly, has anyone purchased/played Afrika? I'd definately buy it on the impressions I have off the web, but what are YOUR thoughts on it? What can I expect from this game?

Secondly, about the language. It's listed as being 'English/Chinese', I presume that its at least subtitled in English. That's fine, but I'm just worried I'll buy a game in a language I can't understand if I get the wrong version! Would this be the correct language version for me?

Thirdly, they don't ship to the EU, I assume that includes me in the UK, if it does then I would have to have it sent to my g/f's friend in Canada, then forwarded to me... this will hurt my wallet! I don't mind if it'll be worth it, what experiences has anybody else had with import games like this?

Overall I feel really excited about Afrika, it looks like something totally different to anything I've played recently, and I'm actually considering using my Killzone 2 funds to buy it with! Most of my current games are shooters, and though I enjoy them I feel like a change, something a little more immersive and story-driven.

Thanks for any help!

I'm also a long time fan and player of the series. I started growing bored with the series a while ago, though, due to its persistent stubborness towards not developing the story EVER. I mean, think about it, after like 7 RE games or more we don't know one single spec more about the characters and Umbrella and what is going on than we did after that first game. That is sad.

Then RE4 came out and I loved it. Absolutely loved it. I felt the controls worked perfectly fine, the action was excellent, and the graphics were sweet. My only disappointment was they completely ignored all the past story (which went nowhere) and started a new story...which I fully expect will go just as nowhere as the old story. But I really liked the translation to more of an action zombie game.

Rest assured people, RE4 was not a "horror" game, so forget about the BS about RE5 being all action and no "horror". This went out the window a long time ago.

After playing the RE5 demo, I didn't know what to think. I felt I had to force myself to keep playing the first time. I don't know if they butchered the conrols from RE4, because something felt off and you could tell. Or maybe the controls are exactly the same, but RE5's faster action combined with the zombies appearing all around you shows the weakness of the RE4 controls. RE4 I remember being more linear.

So I was all prepared to ignore RE5, or maybe just rent it. But then my buddy came over and we played Co-op and that is where the game really started to shine. And that is saying a lot considering I rarely play multiplayer games. It is clear RE5 was MADE from the ground up to be a co-op game. It ads a whole new level of fun to the game that I felt lacking single player. Plus I love their take on split screen which I'm surprised I've never seen before.

ZIMdoom

I think the stories of RE4/5 and the original series are supposed to be connected, the way I interpreted it was that the 'parasites' infecting the ganados or whatever were in some way the origins of the T-Virus, and I think I read somewhere that the original virus was engineered from Ebola.

Basically it looks like they've been very 'loose' with the story, so they can go back and fill more gaps in as they develop it. Look at how they did it with Zero on the Gamecube, it takes the simple 'lost contact with Bravo team, Rebecca only survivor' from the original Resident Evil and develops it into a full story arc in its own right. And when they remade Resident Evil on the Gamecube (which was fabulous in my opinion) they added a lot to the storyline, about the origins of the mansion which wasn't in the original game.

Overall I enjoyed the demo. It does however look a little TOO similar to RE4, even down the the big baddies (the executioner dude and the chainsaw maniac). It's just as if the setting has changed. I'll still probably get it though, and enjoy it! Coop looks like it'll be a fun diversion too.

I liked the Sephiroth battle in Kingdom Hearts one better than in 2, more strategy and less button mashing.

About the MGS4 boss women. Do you get anything for draining their stamina instead of their life or vice versa?

My favorite boss fight would have to be one of the 16 collossi, since each one was pure awesomeness. I pick the dragon one cause it was so cool to use argo and run next to the dragon.

Zidaneski

With the MGS4 BB bosses, if you destroy the Beast (the armoured suit) nonlethally, then when you defeat it (but before you fight the unsuited Beauty) you can find a miniature Doll of the character somewhere on the boss stage. If find all the dolls then when you complete the game you unlock the 'Solar Gun', an uber nonlethal gun that does massive damage to Vamp!

If you defeat the unsuited Beauty nonlethally then you unlock that boss's face camo.

Some of my favourite bosses were from Eternal Darkness on the Gamecube, specifically the Guardian underneath the final Cathedral stage (during WWI) and the final fight against Pious. After watching the Guardian stomp that monk, and then having the wall of energy behind so there's no way out, it was just such an epic fight! And when you fight Pious, as the Ancient you summoned is simultaneously battling Pious' Ancient, when it cycles through all of the characters who have succumbed to the Tome, gives a truly epic feeling to this climatic battle.

I'd personally get Bioshock, but at the risk of sounding repetitive it depends what you're into. Bioshock is a masterpiece, simply one of the most beautiful, immersive and imaginative shooters of this generation. As said above it lacks MP, but if you are a completionist there are several endings and you can't unlock all of the abilities on one playthrough. I haven't actually played R2 yet, but I enjoyed the first one, it was a good but unoriginal shooter, but the story was compelling and fun MP adds depth. Doesn't R2 have a ridiculous number of players per match too? Let us know which you get! Fletch X

Thanks for the help!

Cool, I'll try unplugging both the console and the TV and seeing if that helps.

Not sure how this is relevant, but when I switch the console on, in the corner of the TV screen it comes up with '1080i\60' as it changes resolution. Now the last game I had in (which is still in the disk drive) is Far Cry 2, which runs in 780p. When I got frustrated that there was no picture and resorting to pad mashing to make something happen, I repeatedly pressed the X button, which would have started the game. When I did so in the corner of the screen it said '780p' as it changed resolution again.

This confused me, as it implied there was still some communication between the TV and PS3 via the HDMI cable, but there was still no picture or sound.
