Almost never. I don't even find the preorder discounts compelling. Most games are still cheaper AND patched within 3-6 months. With literally thousands of games spanning decades to choose from, who the hell needs day 1? The only exception I understand is MP games where the community will drop off fast. But, then, that still doesn't require "day 1" to enjoy, nor does it sound like a good game with lasting appeal
So how long would the Video game industry last if everyone stopped purchasing day one?
The Gaming Industry would still last, once developers get the message that they have to stop releasing games with game breaking bugs, and milking them with overpriced DLC, more gamers would purchase on Day 1, we may even get a lower launch price.
There would probably be a decrease in single player games before that, since people still purchase multiplayer games on Day 1. lol
@TheEroica: The only game I've purchased on Day 1 in the last 10 years was Tekken 7.. I usually search Steam for GOTY Editions and games on sale with all it's DLC.. that's where most of my gaming is done, that seems like the best way to do it.
Pretty much the only reason I'd be interested in one.. I think the hardware would run it's course too soon with new games to justify it's starting price.. luckily I was too broke to buy a Nvidia Shield when it came out, that's something I would've regretted. lol
