MGS4 when it's delayed and released fall 2008 because Sony realizes, "O MAN, we got no system sellers for the 2008 holidays!"
But yeah, MGS4 and FFXIII will be the only games at the moment that can compete with other system sellers like Halo 3 or Bioshock. Squre-Enix looks like the only thing keeping Sony alive right now. I sure as heck would never buy one if Square-Enix jumped ship.
I don't understand how a system can win in hardware sales but lose in software sales. This isn't PS2 where people are buying PS2s to play DVDs. People will buy Wii to play GAMES. People will buy 360 to play GAMES. So by logic, I got to say Wii will win in software if they're going to win in hardware. Yeah, Halo 3 might be the best selling game, but in terms of total software sales, I gotta think Wii will win out. I mean, people aren't just going to buy Wiis without games here. Plus, Nintendo actually makes money off of console sales, so winner is Wii either way.
Oh, and I agree with the concensus the PS3 is going to get killed this holiday season. :)
Well, I'm pretty new to the FPS genre, and I am having a lot of fun playing games like Bioshock and FEAR at the moment. But one thing I don't have is a great surround-sound setup, and I was wondering if I was missing out.
One ot the things that really bugs me is that I'm often getting shot at, and I have no idea where the enemy is. Would surround sound help with that? I'm currently running some stereo speakers right now and I sure as heck can't tell if a guy is coming at me from the left or right, much less front and back if I had a surround sound setup. I'm really wanting the distinct "Surround Sound" feel of a videogame where I can really tell if someone is approaching me from my front left or rear right ect. I'm not sure if I'm missing out cause I can't even tell left and right with the stereo speaker setting I have now (a settings issue perhaps?).
I was especially considering some surroundsound headphones if it would give me that same effect. Anyone have any recommendations?
I think that Wii controls still feel gimmicky right now. There are definitely going to be games that really uses the controllers really well. The only games that really used the Wii controller aren't even from Nintendo IMO. Zack & Wiki and Duy's Adventure uses the controllers the most. I still believe Mario Galaxy could be easily done on gamecube, and there are too many others that could be done on gamecube as well. But I expect to see a bunch more games for Wii that will really utilize the controls. I'm sure the NDS looked pretty gimmicky at first too, so I think we're just going to have to wait a bit.
Wii is only going to widen the gap from here on out, and here's why. It's all about the INSTALLATION BASE! If there's a golden rule that most developers follow, it's that you primarily develop for the console with the biggest installation base. And the Wii is absolutely trouncing the competition right now. You add in the fact that it costs less that half the money to make a Wii game, and I expect developers are going to go wild on this thing. And low development costs definitely play a factor as I've never seen so many people allocate so much of themselves to NDS and PSP development. I've never seen portable gaming so popular.
And developers are JUST NOW starting to shift gears over to Wii development, so I expect the Wii library to explode in the next 1 or 2 years. And yes, it is all about quantity. The console with the biggest library also always has the best library. People might not believe me, I firmly believe that Wii will at least share or take away the JRPG crown away from Sony. No, they're not going to have the next FF, but one game isn't going to determine who wears the JRPG crown. I just hope Nintendo doesn't do anything stupid and restrict 3rd party development in anyway. It's going to be awsome when the most anticipated Wii games in the coming years will not be made by Nintendo.
Now let me say that I do believe there is room for all 3 system. I mean C'mon, you don't think giants like Sony or MS is going to exit the console world anytime soon do you? And yes, I do want a console that pushes the boundary of cutting-edge graphics. But at the end of the day, I expect Wii to widen the lead it has over the next few years. Heck, they're the only ones that actually profit from selling a Wii! That's just not fair; lower the price dammit! :P
As an avid console gamer, even I have to say that PC GAMING IS AWSOME! PC has totally benefited from this generation of consoles. I'm not sure if you noticed but a HUGE chunk of console games are coming to PC, and I am very happy to know that I'm going to be playing the best quality versions of all the games and then some (except for Madden :(). Add in 360 controller support and you got the best system on the market. And no, I'm not going to have to upgrade my PC every 2 years, and anyone who says this obviously isn't a real PC gamer. My PC is graphically superior to consoles and will always play the same games better than their console counterparts. So I'm not going to have to upgrade until PS4 pretty much.
Now it's all bout a question of 1) are the PC ports going to keep on coming like gangbusters? and 2) will there be a console-only library of games worth caring about? Right now, the best console is a PC!!! Wii is the only console worth getting.
