As suicidal as it is, I have to agree

BG2's plot was cliched

But hey, one of the best games of all time

Hey Guys,

I nought the Big Bytes (aus) version of Ghost Master

I'm provided with 2 discs, both which look exactly the same and contain game installation stuff.

One's called GMC (disc 1) and on'es called XPL (disc 2)

Any ideas?

^^

Agreed, these days the consumer demands a astoy for a certain genre, but in theory, and to a finer point, a game is about gameplay.

A good story merely compliments a game, it doesn't make it or break it-otherwise we would be talking about a movie

[QUOTE="dakan45"][QUOTE="shalashaska88"]Crysis had a bad story, but the game was awesome in every other department so it didn't matter. I agree though, RPGs must have good story to keep players interested. One example is Fallout 3. Had a weak main storyline, so I forced myself to play till the end just to see the ending, which was disappointing anyway. biggest_loser
crysis was a blockbuster, it explained stuff unlike timeshift, anyway which was the last game you played with good story?

I like Crysis a lot but the story is the weakest part. If you call Bioshock a rip off of SS2 then Crysis is a knock off of Predator 1 and also the beginning of Die Another Day lol. It didn't really explain anything about the suit. It had characters that merely functional, with poor voice acting. Is this a joke post? You criticise Bioshock's story yet you're supporting Crysis' narrative? There are plenty of good games with stories like BS, HL2, Thief 1-3, Max Payne, Witcher, Mass Effect - need I go on?!

You can always provide examples of good games with stories. The fact is that their gameplay was excellent. We aren't watching a movie here. Why would people play these games just so they could immerse themselves in a story? As naval, gbrading and True sounds have said, it merely compliments good gameplay, UNLESS the story is hyped to be an important part of a game

Agreed, traditional RPGs are bad without stories.

Mount and Blade (action) and others aren't

Another one-Sins of a Solar Empire

1. No Campaign

2. A thin backstory

I do agree, however, that a good story is only needed if you want to escape reality

No it doesn't

I think people are being ridiculous. A game, in its inherent nature is meant to be something where a person can play-the story is the icing on the cake

Take Mount and Blade for example. A GREAT GAME. In its depths, there lies a wonderful experience further enhanced by mods.

Another example are games like Dwarf Fortress, Sim City, etc, where you use your IMAGINATION

These are just examples, not the main idea. Besides, people say that Battlefield 1942, Rome Total War are excellent games (no doubt that they are), but their "story" is purely a page out of history

These days, people have come to expect one. In the days of Pong, Tetris, maybe even Donkey Kong (minimal story), people were satisfied

In a game, above all, gameplay is the most important thing, and these days, people don't realise that a game i something you play, not watch

Oh, by the way, if you're about to say graphics, they're better in the REAL world!
