@jesterofbass: Apparently Gamespot did:

  • Free Xbox One X 4K Upgrades Coming For These Five Existing Games --Some big games will get free 4K updates for Xbox One X.

Although I don't remember them saying specifically 5 games, on more than a few occasions now they have mentioned that a number of games that have released since 2016 will be getting the 4K treatment. I would just assume that anything multiplat that has already received a 4k boost on the Pro will also see enhancements on the One X. Unless you thought I was talking about launch releases. I don't know that they'd go back 3 years but 2 years by the time the One X launches is still quite a long time in the gaming world. It does sound like they'll be doing some 4K upscaling though.

Sony was definitely a bit dry but I'm still looking forward to the little they showed. I feel like both companies have bigger things around the corner but they are now aware of the backlash that these exceptionally premature E3 reveals will give them.

@gamenerd15: Seeing some Ni No Kuni 2 could really have helped this conference.

This wasn't the best Sony conference however I think I enjoyed it more than the Gamespot crew. It did feel a bit E3 2016 part 2. I can't help feeling like pretty much everything they showed last year appealed to me more then. This years additional footage often left me more confused. The little that was new I enjoyed.

I wasn't completely sold on Monster Hunter but it does seem like a missed opportunity to not keep it exclusive. Then again as someone who hates exclusives and would love to see theme abolished, I'm happy.

I'm split fifty fifty on Spiderman. I enjoy linear play but hate most QT events so I'll have to see how much personal freedom you're given before I make a final decision. Combat - seemed - awesome, but I would have to know that it isn't too scripted to be sure.

Detroit Become Human left me more confused than anything. I was really excited for it last year and I felt I had a good grasp of what it was, but now I'm lost and don't know quite what to make of it. God of War was good but again last years showing had me far more excited for it.

As for PSVR, I just can't get seem to get into it. So far space and car games are my main reasons for wanting to use VR and even then I just can't see myself buying one. In small bursts maybe but I think I'll pass on wearing that for longer sessions. I was really hoping Microsoft was going to reveal a better version of Hololens because I think AR is more along the lines of what I'm interested in, but it looks like everyone has pulled back on their enhanced viewing gear this year. I think the funding may have finally ran dry on this segment now.

Days gone was probably the only game that I saw last year that I felt more interested in this year. I'm not a huge zombie game guy and hordes of zombies excite me even less but the gameplay, environment, and the idea of a stronger narrative really appeals to me. I'm looking forward to learning more about it.

I dunno, this year Sony felt a little like Microsoft last year. Then again it's not much of a surprise considering how much Sony has pushed it in the last 2 years. I'm sure there's some cool stuff in the pipes but they probably realized that we're getting a little tired of being shown games that aren't going to be out for 2 years. It's clear that they've previously been showing us games that are barely out of the approval stage since many have still yet to launch.

@livedreamplay:Compare final numbers instead of trying to compare barely mid cycle. In reality it's all bullshit anyway because Sony was only really behind in time not in sales. If you match timelines the 360 and the PS3 were neck and neck right from launch. Sony may have won that battle but that 1 year delay took a heavy toll.

Let me explain:

Sony was a beast and Microsoft was a serious underdog. Microsoft pounded out a powerful machine that was not ready for prime time and it's failure rate proved that. Their leap of faith on launching 1 year ahead of Sony paid off but their hardware failure rate on the first 3 years worth of machines bit them in the ass. In all likelihood it was probably the biggest reason the 360 couldn't hold onto it's lead. To be fair though, it's pretty amazing that Microsoft did that well against a battle tested company like Sony in the first place.

It's easy to become blinded to the truth if you merely look at a battle as victor and the defeated. It doesn't paint the entire picture. Let's take a closer look at the fight. The original Xbox sold less than 25,000,000 units. Those 25 mil users were Microsofts potential install pool for the 360. In comparison the PS2 Sold over 125,000,000 units before the 360 had even launched. At one fifth of Sony's potential 125 mil install pool, Microsoft wasn't even fighting in the same weight class when the 360 launched. Still Microsoft fought hard to be worthy by the time the PS3 stepped into the ring.

If we take a look at PS2's final tally, which sits at roughly 157 million units, then look to the PS3 and Xbox 360's tally which sits at close to 86 mil units each, it could be argued that Sony potentially lost upwards of 60 million users to that delay. Microsoft may not have ever truly held the belt but the damage to Sony was huge.

Now explain to me how the previous generation is a testament to how you can catch up after botching the start?

@Xristophoros: "exclusives? you mean those games that are also on pc?" there it is. **Slow clap** Like clockwork. I'm a fan of gaming and I don't run out whining about how I can't have everything I want. Microsoft is trying to create a single purchase for multiple platforms for you and you still aren't happy. How ridiculous is that?

Sweet of them to offer a teardown. All console manufactures should do this. Show me your guts!

@Xristophoros: $600 in Canada and the extra $100 over the pro is well spent. buddy. They just gave you a bunch of exclusives but you need to get your fingers out of your ears to hear about them.

***Waits to hear the same old tired responses

@livedreamplay: Actually leading at launch can massively affect the long term regardless of what's been changed. The reality is if you have two similar machines and your friends are all on one of them then you're more likely to buy it, even if you would prefer to go another way.
