@dhaynes25: I've played both systems on a 100" screen and I can tell you, outside of still captures, the differences between 900p and 1080p are seldom if ever noticeable during gameplay. That being said, I still would have preferred it to be 1080p.

Thanks to Sony silently conceding that Microsofts controller had a nicer fit, we finally remove one of the biggest reasons I preferred games on my 360 to games on my Ps3. The other being Sony's interface. The fact that I would rather play a game on a paid service over a free service speaks volumes about how much I preferred the 360 controller. The truth is Sony lost me because of the controller from the start, due to some dumbass thinking people would be content without rumble feedback.

This time around I loved my PS4 from the get go, but I was more swayed by what Xbox dropped into the mix from the beginning. Even so, Killzone did get points for feeling like my first proper next gen title. I'm super excited for this year though. If Sony puts out all that they say they are, my Xbox may have to settle for the back seat.

@Slim_Lyrics: I'm not sure what your problem with games on the Xbox one is. Any disk you put in either plays automatically or is visible on the main page. The last couple digital games you played are available from the main page, just like the PS4, and the direct link to your games library is is at the top of the main page. Both installed and and not installed.

My problem with the PS4 is that their interface is not exactly intuitive. It has a lot a functionality but you really have to search to find the thing you want. Although neither is perfect in this regard the Xbox is still easier for the novice user to find what they are in search of. This is exactly how I felt about trying to factory reset the Ps4. It has multiple places to remove data and all of them give you a false sense of what you are doing. On top of that you have to be online just to remove your profile, which is actually your biggest concern. If you, like many, have pulled your console to sell it and remember you need to remove your profile after the fact, you are left trying to track down an internet connection to clear it.

On the Xbone you just pop through a couple menu's, then hit Factory Reset (no connection necessary), and moments later all is well.

I'm still hoping for a multiselect option on both consoles for installing and removing games.

@dhaynes25: I must disagree, I much prefer the Xbones interface to the PS4. I can however agree that not having the prices properly listed has been a huge gripe for me.

PS. Ever tried to clear your data to sell a PS4? What a fricken hassle.

@PrpleTrtleBuBum: As someone who thought he would never intentionally buy a game through Steam , that now owns over 200 Steam titles, I think I'll have to say I'm quite happy with the service. That being said, it's far from perfect.

I actually hate GOG, Origin, Uplay, ect. Not because of what they offer or how they offer it, but because they are breaking up my games collection. Having to go to multiple sources to access my games is irritating. Now if they would all connect to a unified DRM database and allow me to access my games from my service of choice, that would be a game changer. (pardon the pun)

@Acillatem1993: No, pretty much everyone hated it in it's first couple years. It was DRM first and foremost back in early to mid 2000's, and you know how people love their DRM. Now it's about the games, great prices and easy game management. It's not perfect, but it's come a hell of a long way, and pretty much set the bar for other services.

The eventual massive drop in game prices it offered was what really sold it. Steam single-handedly slowed the overwhelming illegal game download phenomenon that was prevalent at it's debut. I'm sure Humble Bundle's boom in 2015/2016 also helped to put a few more legit titles into illegal downloaders hands. I'm not saying that illegal downloading is gone and with more people playing games than ever, it's unlikely that less games are being downloaded illegally, but it surely has turned a vast amount of illegal downloaders into legit owners.

Hey Gabe , remember when everyone in the gaming community hated steam with an undieing passion? Not many can make that kind of turn around.

Button mapping should own a premium spot on this screen. It's so buried right now that you've got to really hate a button to be willing to go through the hassle of changing it.

@Lach0121: We will never know the price until it hits the floor but there is a lot of chatter on estimates of a $399 price tag. I also remember someone from Microsoft emphatically talking about how people will be surprised when they see the price, when asked if it will be able to compete with the Pro.

I think if you went around to all the Xbox One S buyers, and asked them if the main reason they chose it over a Ps4 or other device was because it had a 4K Blu-Ray player, you will find most will definitely agree it gave added value but it was not the deciding factor. Using something as justification is not the same as buying it for that reason. It's merely an excuse we give ourselves.

As someone who had an Xbox One already, my reasons for upgrading were to drop the brick, reduce the consoles footprint, proper 4k video playback support with HDR, and getting a controller that not only has a 3.5mm jack and Bluetooth but offers notably better connectivity. Slight performance tweaks and 4K Blu_ray were merely added selling points.

I can't speak of the certainty for the future for the Xbox, but in the relatively short time frame since the Xbox first year mess, they probably couldn't have positioned themselves better for the future than they have. Microsoft needs to get streaming gaming up and running. They needed PC gaming under the Live banner to come back into the fold, and trying to steal any of Steams thunder is highly improbable. With likely only a decade to get their ducks in a row for before the cloud gaming generation takes over, they can't afford to hold back.

@Bigbudd0045: Actually the deciding factor is usually what your friends want to do. Unless you and your friend only have one friend, the reasons may not be as cut and dry as what exclusives are on what platform. Often it can come from one of them saying something as blunt as,

"I'm buying a PS4, you douche-bags can do whatever you want!"

@Lach0121: There is already talk about how Scorpio is looking to come out around $399 US. I would be in Shock if the Ps4 Pro dropped to under $300 US before year end. Based on the difference in performance, this seems reasonably competitive to me.

Steam machines are hardly flying out the door. The average gamer isn't deciding between a PC or a steam machine, and other machines aren't offering the same games or performance. Gaming laptops that offer the same performance as Scorpio will definitely cost more, but are more likely purchase than a steam machine. Remember, the OS is more bulky and games are less optimized on a gaming PC or laptop, so people will likely need something at least 20% more powerful than the Scorpio to compare.

"cross platform sales will impact the Scorpio, to think not is kinda being oblivious here." Assuming that the impact it will have on sales will be one sided, is also being oblivious.

I'm sorry but your 4k Blu-Ray fact is not really a fact. It is however a selling point. The current state of physical 4k media content is little better than the VR content we see out there. Everyone is talking about the value added via the 4K Blu-Ray player but few are actually using it for that. 4k media is priced far to high in a world where we can view 4k content online at bargain bin prices. Most people know this already, but it doesn't hurt them to point out that the Xbone gave us more for the money. It's basically an excuse people use to buy what they already wanted.

Lets be honest here, you're not stating facts much in the way I am not stating facts. You are stating an opinion based on the information as you perceive it. It's clear you see no value in the Scorpio. You probably didn't see alot of value in the One S with Xbox going all cross platform. It didn't stop Microsoft from selling a buttload of them, and it will not impact the sales of the Scorpio.

All this being said, I can't imagine Scorpio will see One S sales numbers, but I believe that it will do better than the PS4 Pro did on it's holiday debut. Microsoft has set themselves up in a great place. They will have the most powerful gaming console, at a time that will likely allow them the title for 2 years, and when lost can be reacquired only one year later. Scorpio will be significantly more powerful then the One S, giving potential buyers a distinct difference in their options. When the One S and the Scorpio are both in play they will make Sony's machines look like downgrades. That's what I call smart business.

At the end of the day you may not see value in the Scorpio, and as you said, there are others like you. I however do see value in the Scorpio, and there are others like me.

Footnote:

I feel like I should clarify, my comment about not seeing the value in upgrading my PS4 to a Pro isn't directed at your decision. If I was buying a a PS4 straight out, I might consider doing the same. There was typically only about a $100 difference between the Slim and the Pro at most times through the holidays. I however was doing a PS4 trade up at EBgames and it was almost an additional $300 CAD after taxes for the Pro vs $100 for the slim + Uncharted 4 and a year of PSplus. Basically I traded my old PS4 straight across since I wanted both of those add ons anyway. In the process I also got a new warranty. YAY! Even so, I still kinda wish I had waited to make that purchase as you have. As you mentioned, this years lineup **knocks on wood** is looking pretty impressive.
