Part of the reason Crysis was unsuccessful comercially was because it could only run well on a very small margin of systems. People that pirated it did so because they didn't want to buy the game just to find out it wouldn't run nice with all the pretty eye candy turned on. GTA IV will probably be more successful on the Pc than crysis was.

I'm still on the fence about getting GTA IV so I won't get it any time soon even though I have a 360 to play it on. I built a rig last winter and if the pC version is really superior to the consoles then I might lean toward that. I'm just curious if the PC will get the DLC (for free of course unless MS makes it part of their Windows live BS) that the 360 will get. I may also want ot use a 360 controller so I can experience what the game was like on consoles with the better graphics my PC is most likely capable of.

I've never been into GTA in the past just because I never found it appealing due to the premise, with the release of GTA 4 I've given it another chance and am considering getting it at some point.

I don't think GTA is a bad series, given their popularity it's clear that they're well made games even if the genre hasn't captivated me yet (though that may be changing). My biggest problem with GTA results from it's popularity and the subject matter of the games. As we all know GTa has had its share of controversy, which has made its way into the mainstream media on more than one occasion. This has lead people to sterotype all games as being like GTA, when we know this isn't true. GTA is one of the few franchises popular enough to get media coverage, and I feel that it's the one game that shouldn't get this kind of attention because it is a poor representation of what most games are like. This is mainly due to the game being very serious with its M rating. Unlike other games which seem to be given an M rating based on technicalities, like Halo being M rated simply because there's blood (the swearing is relatively minor and apart from the fact that there's blood at all this game isn't that violent). GTA on the other hand is probably the most legitamately M rated game out there, the content is comparable to what you'd find in an R rated movie. I just don't like that this is the image get when ever video games make the news, since this is just one franchise that happens to be a bit more extreme than the others. That is my biggest gripe with GTA.

Again I have not played any of the games. Pretty much everything I know has been gathered from reading posts and watching videos I can find showing gameplay and trailers. I'm in no way hating the franchise, I just don't like the image it has given gaming in general due to its popularity.

Edit: Just to be clear. I don't have a problem with any of the content in the GTA series. It's more extreme than I'm used to (which is again part of the reason I've stayed away from it in the past) but part of that has to do with it being a more "legitamate" M rating. I don't have problems with it as long as it fits the context of the game, but that could be said about lots of elements of game design.

your CPU and RAM are fine, and I'd imagine your graphics card is decent too though I'm not so sure on that.

Like the people above my first suspect is the HD, since a failing HD can cause read/write problems resulting in corrupted data, etc... I also thikn some of the problems like the specific ones you mentioned are software related, like the firewall preventing you from patching crysis and flash not working because you don't have the plugin. It's also possible you could have bad memory, since that also causes random system crashes. Hard drive is my first guess though, do you notice your computer crashing at any specific time (have you noticed a pattern?) also what messages come up when it crashes?

I also have a prefer to have a tangible product as evidence of my purchase, though I'll probably order most games online and skip the hassle of going to stores unless I just want to look at stuff.

I made this account when nintendo systems were all i played, and I was a big metroid fan. For those who may not be aware "Prime" was the last boss in Metroid Prime, it's actual name is Metroid prime but I shortened it. as for my GT I picked that because it is not affiliated with any particular game or franchise so I won't get sick of it while also implying a lack of a true identity. The numbers in both names are arbitrary.

I agree that a 10 doesn't mean absolute perfection, but at the same time the game does seem to have issues comparable to what pther games rated less than 10 have had (i.e Gears of War). I'm on the fence about getting GTA IV, I've never played any of the other but the open city really intrgues me and the mssions sound like fun from what I've read. I've known about GTA and the reputation it has but I think the negative publicity turned me away since the games have gained notoiety for the wrong reasons. At the same time a lot of the videos I see make the game less appealing to me, however video reviews of Sins of a Solar Empire also aren't very appealing but after playing the demo I'm thinking of getting it. Anyways the reason I brought that up was because to me, a game that gets a 10 or even above a 9 across the majority of game sites means that that people that are new or aren't necessarily into the particular genre can still have fun if they get it and ultimately feel that their purchase was worth it. Unfortunately the only way to know for sure is to play the game, but since there's no demo for GTA IV that's not possible. if I were to get this game and be totally amazed more so than I've been any game in awhile, then I'll agree that it deserves a 10 but otherwise but otherwise I don't think so.

i'm not sure exactly what this Endorphin is, but part of the reason motion capture is used is because it's easier to implement and takes less processing power. If everything was animated based on physical interaction the hardwar would have to calculate the movement of body oart each time t he animation played instead of loading a preset animation from RAM. Plus the wole point of a predtermined animation is to automate a series of actions (like picking up a gun for instance) with a single button press. Physics engines eliminate a lot of the repetetiveness (remember when sprites had static death anmations?) but there are actions that are invoked by the player that aren't dependent on any factors in the game world (like reloding your weapon) so the developer's don't have any place where they can tie that simple action into anything else in the game to make it variable and non random
