I love Final Fantasy VII but I have to admit that even though the core gameplay was great it was still terribly unbalanced. In this remake they need to remove Mime materia and Knights of the round. But hey, you can say most FF games are in some way terribly unbalanced.

So mad.

I have lately been playing FFVI to see whats so great about it and to be honest I have stopped playing right after finishing the opera thing with Celes. The game is boring me more then FFXIII did, if that is not a big achievement I dont know what is. I will continue playing it after I finish the witcher 3 though. Also FFVII is not "thematically" confused. Its themes are pretty clear. The game is all about Cloud discovering himself and defeating his own weaknesses. Im not sure what is so confusing about it.

Final Fantasy VII receives so much hate simply because its popular.

The only good thing about FFVII is the Cloud finding himself that's it. Everything else IS thematically confused. Why? Because the villains simply put, have no solid motive. That is the story's main weakness. Contrast that with FFVI, which was far more consistent in its themes.

So in other words the entire story good then? Unlike FFVI, FFVII does not have an ensemble cast. FFVII is exclusively Cloud's story, he is the protagonist of the story, everything else that happens is to give context to Cloud's struggles. Sephiroth's motivation is also clear, he wishes to continue Jenova's work.

Any popular game will be deemed overrated by idiots who didn't like it as much as other people.

This.

Its rather funny though, when you ask FFVI fanboys whats so good about their beloved game they always answer you by bashing FFVII instead of actually listing the pros of FFVI.

So what was boring about it, don't you wanna see what happens to Locke and Terra and the evil empire in the southern continent?

how could you stop playing it right after the opera scene your heading to the south on airship thats bad ass into enemy territory why the hell did you stop playing?

Because neither Terra nor Locke seemed like interesting characters to me. In fact so far I found Locke rather hateful and his backstory with Rachel is the definition of boring. But like I said before I will continue playing after finishing The Witcher 3 as I think Celes has the potential to become an enjoyable character.

It has to be either The Last of Us or Gears of War.
