Summer Gaming Reflections...
by r4v3gl0ry on Comments
So, it's June. Nothing much has happened since my last blog post, and no new games have been added to my collection. But, like most past summers, I've become interested in a great many things, particularly things on Gamespot. Let's take some genuine time (which is about to be changed) to go over my experiences this month.
The Grand Theft Auto franchise has never been appealing to me. Although you'd probably expect me to hate the so-called "repettitive" game play, I don't. I felt so sick with the ghetto-gangster-dull story behind the game. I'm gonna tell you now that all of that has been changed...purified....or what ever the hell you want to call it. After watching the second GTA IV trailer, I was hooked. "Sandbox" and "cool new cinematic trailer that tells me there's a better story" has come together to form the ideal GTA formula. It's nice to see ghetto-punk storylines change to mobster-and-mafia-storylines, but this is different. I can't explain it, so go do yourself a favor by watching it if you already haven't. If you have, do yourself a favor and fantasize about it for a minute. Alright, if you have watched it already (which would also count for the people who just watched it), then you should feel the same way I do. The franchise has almost even changed itself with this new game. I WANT IT.
Red Vs. Blue...Geez, what can I say about it? It's awesome-tastic. And if you weren't alerted about this earlier, the last episode aired last night. The hearts of many RvB viewers were struck down last night, along with mine. Episode 100, the last episode, aired. And in the end, all of those 100 episodes of pure happiness and adventure ended up being the weirdest Xbox Live match for the characters of RvB. It was like a "dream" to the characters, which was a pretty nice ending to me. The directors and producers even tricked us viewers by pretending that the voice actors (featured in the credits) were Japanese. Very funny, Rooster Teeth. How culd I have been ocompletely fooled? Even with the Japanese ending song they put in the background! ARRGH! Ah yes, and they're NOT gonna be using Halo 3 for a new series, which would be the most expected thing to do. But of course, it makes the viewers sad, which in turn makes life like a movie.
Fine, this will be the last paragraph. You're frickin' bored with this blog, right? That's alright, because this blog ain't for you anyway =P !!! Jk. My friend Brian has just recieved an insane request from his mother. And the request was sent to inform him of his cousin's birthday, informing him to use his own money to buy him a PS3, along with a game and probably a new controller. I asked him a hundred times if he was lying to me. Nope, in fact, he wasn't. His parents...told him...to use...his own money...to buy...a PS3...for his cousin. The console, the game, the controller, and probably even an adapter for online play would cost around 800 bucks, which is exactly what Brian holds. Insane. Don't even ask me if his mother was kidding. I made sure.
What makes me think the way I think about computer upgrades?

Strangely, my computer teacher bought me Civilization 4 for writing (probably) 7 school articles that actually made it. Still, it's a bit too generous. I soon enough discovered that Satan had edged her to buy it for me when I realized just how stupid my motherboard is. The point of the day?
Civilization 4 has kick-ass graphics and the game play is waaaaaay too well-known and great for me to miss out on. But, as I had already known for a while, my graphics card sucks. That's why I started posting topics and questions on vista playability (vista, which I'm getting later on in the year with a new computer). The next problem is that Civ 4 doesn't work well with vista, and they say that installing it on vista won't even work sometimes. I was hoping to install it to play the upcoming vista-compatible expansion of Civ 4, Beyond the Sword. (Yes, I am skipping the first expansion.) Then, after getting on the phone with my great computer-professional uncle Simon, my heart exploded. I found out that my motherboard (in some weird way) doesn't have the ability to upgrade with GeForce or Radeon 7500, only VGA cards, which he said, were rarely produced. Great, my motherboard doesn't have little empty ports to upgrade, and VGA cards are out of the question. So, I decided that I could just NOT get vista to play ONE game. Simple. Not. If I do get a new computer, my uncle will give me his business version of vista for free, which is un-skippable, also teamed up with the fact that vista-- free or not to be free-- is something I shall NEVER stop aiming for. Basically, I need Vista, and I will get it.
Deciding to share my misery with my mother, I told her about the current....situation, if you'd call it that. But half way through the conversation and half way through her naive suggestions of simply "getting a new computer to play Civ 4" without the knowledge of different OS's and compatability, I came to one conclusion:
An excerpt from "The History of Famous People Who Never Got to Upgrade Their Computers Once In Their Lifetime" :
"I hate computer upgrades, and I completely despise them. They come from the works of the devil monks back in my homeland, and I purge my stomach clean of computer-upgrade dust each night. Computer upgrades and the very thought of computer upgrades have torn my life apart, and my reputation as an all-around RTS astropath. Never again shall I lay my eyes on a...glorious GeForce 1,000,000, or an ATI Schmadeon 55,000, for computer upgrades built the foundation of video game addiction centers...and now...my lack of passion and respect for computers....."
I was merely joking in the last part about disrespecting computers and all of that crap. Basically, I hate computer upgrades.
Room For Two Next-Gen Consoles? I think so.

I'm a hardcore Microsoft fan 100%, and I'm sure of it. But I admit, I do love some of Sony's action adventure games. I'm speaking as a gamer, not a fanboy. So what is my point, you say? Well, just a while ago, it was confirmed that Devil May Cry 4 was going to be a multiplatformer (HAHA NOT FOR THE Wii!), and my heart leaped. Not only had I seen the awesome trailer and gameplay videos, but for once, a desire that seemed too distant had reached me (or rather, I reached it..). I've seen people play the DMC series, and it seemed fun. Then came other knock-out.....FFXIII, something that was almost impossible for a 360 gamer like me, wasn't officially exclusive anymore! Lately, I've been looking for games that last long and have more juice in them, like for instance, a kick-ass rpg. Now I am at least 1% (PLEEEASE AT LEAST) closer to what I've wanted. But of course, I still think the PS3 is lame, the wii is decent, and the XBOX 360 is God. :P
