The drawn out shooting sequences in GTA4 were amazing (Thre Leaf Clover, saving Roman from warehouse etc.) and rally add to what was just a driving game before. Metroid Prime is awful. There's no excitment there. Half Life 2's engine was (and still is) amazing but the AI was a little poor (just playing episode one on orange box so I don't know if it's been improved)

BUT the best shooter I have played recently has to be COD4. Spiritual successor to Counter Strike. Hope World at War turns out ok.

I have a 360, and it is a pain in the butt that you have to pay so much extra for a wireless adaptor. I really resented that especially as i bought an Elite (which wasn't really so Elite). I think it depends three factors:

a) what games you want to play now and over the next year

b) what consoles your friends own (so you can play them online)

c) prefered controller (I like the XBox but again you need to buy extras, either batteries or a charge kit, to keep them fueled, while I think the PS3 comes with a means to charge it via USB, but I'm not sure)

When i got my 360 (about 2 months ago) i just really, really wanted to play Halo 3 and 3 of my friends had the machine compared to one PS3 owner. I am really chuffed with the machine but there are a few drawbacks:

1. It's a noisy beast (I think it's a lot louder than the PS3)

2. You pay for online play (I don't mind this as you get a good service though others think it's unfair, there's a thread in the forum which goes into this in a lot more detail

3. No Blu-ray (again maybe not a big point for gamers but the PS3 Blu-ray does look sweeeeeeeeeet on a nice TV, and when you consider the price of the XBox and PS3 the PS3 does look like better value)

4. Oh yea and the red ring of death! Touch wood, it hasn't happened to me but I can imagine that it's a right pain in the butt.

Saying that 360 has more killer games than the PS3, especially if you like big, violent action games. And getting those old arcade games off Live for a handful of coins is sweet. And the achievement points seem to be better integrated in XBox games. But then again in a years time the PS3 might just be hitting it's stride and while the XBox could be showing signs of aging. I'm not an XBox fanboy and I hope I've been fair: was a Nintendo fan boy until they released the extremely uninspiring Wii. Load of Toss, unless your a girl. Anyway, whichever one you get, enjoy!

I don't understand this thread? It's not as if XBL is a new service or that people have been conned into paying for something they are not sure about. It's 7 or 8 years old. It has changed the way people play consoles. They beat Sony to the punch and are now reaping the benefits, after years of losing money hand over fist to get into the market. It's a business.

So what's the problem. If you don't like it buy a PS3 and play average games online. And stop moaning! But charging for DLC is something that might become a huge problem in the next few years.

gaming is full of scams. why did konami split the MGS4 games into 2? why do developers charge for DLC? why do developers release awful movie tie-ins. to make money!

personally I don't mindpaying £40 for a years subscription. after all I was sold the console at a loss to Microsoft. and they need to make their money somewhere else. I'd rather pay £40 for that than 'Haze' (cheap shot?) and kill my friends in Liberty City or 14 year old Americans in Halo 3. it is easy to use and fun. if you don't want to pay less that £1 a week (or whatever it is in America, cheaper no doubt) to play online, then don't. And get back in your box.

fluxorator

What? Did I miss something, I only bought the one game.

I missed that as well... Elaborate?

Yea I was unsure on that. Heard that they split them into two games - one online story game and one multi player game. But it must have abeen a rumour. Bloody rumours. So yea, completely invalid point. SORRY!

I have a 360 and think it's great. Playing GTA4 and Halo 3 online is just great fun. A friend of mine owns all 3 current consoles and he tells me that he spends far more time on the 360 playing on Xbox live. He hates the Wii and uses his PS3 for blu-ray and MG4.

How can the system be dead? If you had both PS3 and 360 why would you buy a multi-formt game on the former? Better controller (for my fat hands at least) and better online support (usually - well GTA 4 expansions when they come) and better versions (at least they used to be i have'nt looked at how developers are coping with converting games to PS3 since i settled on buying a 360) And there is a lack of killer games (Haze! what is going on!)

But then again the 360 can be complete crap - touch wood ihave not experienced the RROD, but what a pain in the sack that must be! Also it is extremely loud which the PS3 isn't. This is very annoying when you play games. Some will prefer the PS3 controller. MGS4 is supposed to be very good.Little Big Planet looks very interesting. Blu-ray films look amazing on a nice HDTV. The system has a lot of potential.

Both systems have their pluses and minuses. And at the moment the video games industry seems to be coping well with it's multi-format nature. But i do think the Wii is crap.

Hi,

I'm moving to S.Korea in September and am wondering will I have any problems using my 360 there. 3 things:

1. Will actually using the console be ok with the original power supply (using a converter obviously) or will i have to get a new brick?

2. Will using my current Xbox live subscription be ok?

3. Will i be able to do something to play Korean games on the console without tinkering with it and possibly messing up my live account (this isn't such a big deal as I can get my long suffering mother to send me games for birthdays, xmas, and maybe even easter)

I know nothing about this knd of stuff so if you have the knowledge I would be greatful.

Cheers, Ralph

Think the title of post says it all. Getting an Elite and just wondering what tv to get. Been reading a lot about resolutions and my brain is frying. The general idea was that 720p is the way to go at smaller screen sizes beause thats what the 360's native resolution is. Is it worth getting an elite then if i'm only going to get 720p out of it?i mean i could hook up a cheaper hard drive the 360 for space and get an arcade for 150? too many options! so any advice would be appreciated .

Also LCD or plasma-- mainly for games
