[QUOTE="ramey70"]There are few things more enjoyable on this website than watchching tango fruitlessly make unfounded and innaccurate arguements against Bluray. It's almost mind boggling to watch him feverishly work.alfy13

lol i know, he is my favorite though, because he self pwns him daily. like yesterday he tried to tell me that MS was the DEV for gears of war and not Epic. now that was funny to see him post such a comment.

He, PS-3DO, and KeyWii are my favorite posters hands down.  I should charge them for my lost productivity at work spent reading their posts for amusement.

[QUOTE="pandorax1"]I don't get all this crap about HD-DVD and Bluray, because to be honest, who the hell needs it? Tech-heads and home theatre aficionados maybe, but not the general public because a) the players are hideously expensive b) the quality is barely better than plain ol' DVD c) the general public don't know what the hell there new formats are, and don't want them and d) who wants to buy 2 separate players, an HDTV plus your entire collection of DVDs over again because of the "HD Era"? These new formats arent neededkodex1717

Also my opinion.

Actually, HD-DVD PQ is leagues ahead of DVD, and Blu-Ray movies using MPEG-2

Not anymore

Yeah, but the quality of the VC-1 is lacking.

Crank, which has some of the best reviews as far as PQ goes on either HD-DVD or Bluray, was encoded in MPEG-2.

You will only be able to get a 1080i signal to your 720p set.  It's not a huge deal since amny TV shows and sports programming are broadcast in 1080i and the picture is stunning on 720p sets.

[QUOTE="Zenkuso"]Who cares? a minor image upgrade on larger tvs...yay for the progress!TekkenMaster606

Nothing 'minor' about it. It's a pretty big upgrade. I should know. I work for a studio and have actually seen comparisons between 'show print' quality film and Blu-Ray.

I never understand the "it's a minor upgrade crowd".   There's a reason why all the networks are scrambling to upgrade equipment to provide HD content for TV and sports programming.  If the upgrade were minor no one would care.

and that gap countinues to widen

m3Boarder32

now i wonder if microsoft is going to release a blu-ray player like they did with HD-DVD, two faced company

if this trend continues, I would expect a blu-ray add-on for the 360 by the holiday season.

Right, cuz there is nothing more that MS wants then to help Sony

Post crap like that at avsforum.com and you'll get laughed off the forum by Microsoft Insiders like Amir

you do know M$FT has said if BD wins the war they will have no choice BUT to support it...

Obviously, but that does not mean with a BD Drive for the 360...If BD wins (in 2 -4 years) obviously the next Xbox will have use the BD format...

Actually, Peter Moore said last year that they would release a BD add-on for the 360 if BluRay won.

I'll bet anything that Microsoft does not release a BD drive for the 360, Moore was just playing nice with the Japanese which are heavily in favor of BD

That won't have anything to do with it.  If Microsoft sees any potential profit by making a BD add-on drive they will.

Hey, I got a PS3 for free, and my HD-DVD add on for a $100...Im not hurting either way.

HD-DVD PQ> Blu-Ray PQ

PS3 as a Blu-ray player > 360 as a HD-DVD Player

The PS3 actually does a very good job at Blu-Ray playback..the HD-DVD, eh not so much. I mean nothing for quality, its just the fact that the remote for the 360 sucks harder than the Blu-Ray remote for the PS3...

Also, I like the way, you can view Blu-Ray info such as Codec used (so I know why Blu-Ray movies PQ looks like crap..looking at you MPEG-2!) Current Audio output, and bitrates for each...something I cannot do with the 360.

rappid_rabbit

MPEG-2 can actually produce excellent results if given enough room and bitrate.  Crank, which is regarded as being one of the best in terms of PQ on HD-DVD or Bluray was encoded in MPEG-2.

If you look at the power of the systems the Wii is competing more with the LiteBrite than with the 360 and PS3.

Someone please explain why I need a Blu-Ray player. I have a good LG DVD player that upconverts, and it looks fantastic on my HDTV. I'm supposed to buy a new player when I can get all the movies on regular DVD? lolNumber_1_Gamer

Upconversion isn't the same thing as real HD source material.  Do you also watching standard defintion channels on your HDTV?
