sure Microsoft did an Elite, sure they have 3 SKU's out there but its about choice and freedom of what i want not what i'm forced to buy because of a greedy company is not making enough profit out of their system :P loco76

I stopped reading after the greedy part and I'm sure anybody with half a brain did the same. The fact that you think one company is "greedy" is ridiculous. Do you not know how the world of business works? Sony creates the PS3 and puts a whole lot of stuff in it for a great price, then they sell it. Microsoft does the same but takes a different approach. WOW! Shocking isn't it? lmao!!! Get a clue man.

wow i'm surprised that you came here to flame on a couple words and not share on the topic second if they hold the 20gig system what are they then? tell me explained to me what strategy is this if is not a forcefull way of telling the comsumers you only have 1 choice :P

It's not being "greedy".  Sony loses more money on the 20GB model than they do on the 60GB model.  When you combine that with the fact that it  sells poorly Sony is obligated to their share holders to make a responsible decision regarding their investment.  It has zero to do with greed.

Why?

Obviously with 60 gigs being the main seller, it could cause lose sight of those previous owners, taking advantage of the higher HD.

But you can just replace the PS3's harddrive with a laptop harddrive.

Exactly. That's why I'm wondering why we should feel sorry for them.

[QUOTE="ramey70"]That wouldn't make it useless. It just doesn't provide a benefit that you want. For someone who wants a HD gaming console and movie player it actually fits that role quite well. dimar19

I have DVD. Why do I need BR player? To watch 5 good movies that it has to this moment?

It has more than that out and more on the way.   I use my PS3 almost exclusively for Bluray movie playback while using my 360 mainly for gaming.  I'd rather shove hot nails in my eyeballs than watch a DVD on my HDTV.

So now PS3 is totally dead.

If I buy one someday one it would be 20 Gb besides it has some completely useless stuf like BR for +100$ compare to X360. And now they want to sell +200$ even more useless stuff? LOL

dimar19

Bashing it because you cannot afford it.

Sigh.

I have around $4000 per month after taxes. But I don't buy useless things

How is it totally dead if they got rid of a model that doesn't sell well at all?

[QUOTE="meischris39"]Who would want the tard pack, besides Nintendo has 1 SKU and look how their business model turned out.TyrantDragon55

The PS3 20 gig model isn't a bad deal though, the only thing it's lacking is the bigger hard drive (which can easily be replaced with a larger laptop harddrive), WiFi (big deal), and HDMI (most people can't even take advantage of this). I was actually gonna buy the 20 Gig package.

The 20GB model had HDMI.

[QUOTE="Darthmatt"]It matters to some people, but I don't personally know of a single person who has a Blu-ray player or an HD-DVD player.snyper1982

At one point I was the first kids I new with a VHS and then I was the first kid I knew with a DVD player....Just because you don't know anyone that owns one does not mean that it not selling

True, but I know plenty of people with HDTVs who make good money and none of them have any interest in HD media. My point is, the mass market demand for these products isnt there yet.

Then why did they even buy an HDTV? Crap in, crap out.

That doesnt make much sense. HDTVs have been out years before HDDVD and BR. Three local stations in my area broadcast HD signals and HD cable and Satalite exists.

That's exactly my point. Would you rather watch TV broadcasts in HD or SD? Same with media. Would you rather watch DVD or HD-DVD/Bluray? It's the exact same thing.

If I didn't already have a PS3, there is no way I would drop a ton of cash on a HD media player.... I would THINK about getting the HD-DVD drive for my 360, but I would not spend more than $200 on an HD player. Even though I own a 50" 1080P Samsung DLP set, I am fine with DVD on it.

Are you fine with regular SD digital cable broadcasts too, which are the same resolution as DVD's (480i)?

Yes. I am not paying the extra monthly fee for an HD package...

Then what is the point of owning and HDTV?  I'm baffled as to why you would do that.  It's like buying a 360 and ONLY playing original Xbox games on it.

sdtv looks like crap, but dvds on an HDTV do not. thats the problem with hd movies. i have two hdtvs and i couldnt care any less about hd movie formats, because im not convinced the leap in quality from dvd to either blu ray or hd dvd is going to be even in the same ballpark as the leap in quality from sdtv to hdtv. add in the prohibitive cost of the players and the cost of the movies themselves, and add in the fact that there are two competing formats and no clear winner yet, and you have me and a whole lot of other people sitting on the sidelines for years to come.

DVD's will look exactly the same as digital SD broadcasts since they are the same resolution.

480i is not the same as 480p. most people connect their dvd players to their hdtvs using component cables, not composite cables, and turn on progressive scan. not to mention upscaling dvd players. either way, ill switch to one or the other format if you want to send me a free player or sell me one for around 100 bucks. until then, no thanks. obviously hd dvd/blu ray looks better than dvd, but i doubt that much better that spending hundreds of dollars is worthwhile.

Digital SD broadcasts are in 480p.  Analog broadcasts are in 480i.

[QUOTE="deadmeat59"]wow for once a formate sony backed up is wining . UMD and beta max both floped big time . i do find hat hd dvd have a better line u p!tango90101

They got smart, they built it in the PS3 unlike Betamax:)

while selling as good as all $600 consoles sold, ie; last place....

wow you are a bright one Tango, and you figured that out all by your self?

yup.. i also figured out it'll take more than a last place toy to dictate the winner of the next format war...;)

Unless the "toy" in question was actually a trojan horse.  Sony never cared about the gaming market this time around.  It was merely meant as a method of immediate market penetration and so far it's working.

By the way, what is your attachment to HD-DVD?  Do you get a medal or a kickback?  I never cared wether HD-DVD or Bluray won.  I bought into both because I knew that HD media was needed.   I just want one to win and can clearly see the obvious results to date.
