Sony public relations department is really shady. Did they just find out they were making these changes to hardware that they announced it a month before launch with no BC list? Deihmos
Actually, they announced they were making this change back in June.
I think the worst part is that they won't reveal the list of compatible games until launch day? Why?DilutedDante
Perhaps because the list is changing everyday?

After such a long wait and find out your ps3 is not as same as everyone else, the EU consumers has the right to be mad.

However, BC is not as important as the actual ps3 games.

:P

DilutedDante

Of which there are none, making PS2 games rather important.

Considering the titles hitting during EU launch window it's safe to say you're wrong.

And these titles are? I've seen nothing on the PS3 thats looking better than anything on the PS2. Can't see too many people rushing out to buy Sonic the Hedgehog.

You honestly believe that Motorstorm won't look any better than anything on the PS2? What PS2 game looks better than Resistance or Formula 1?

[QUOTE="asmallchild"][QUOTE="donalbane"][QUOTE="Telekill"]That's fine if you're not a Sony customer anymore... that's your choice, but dont come here trolling about it. Go to system wars where you'll be loved.donalbane
If you don't have anything nice to say about the PlayStation3, just go to Sytem Wars? What is this, the 'Rose Colored Comments Only PS3 board'? He's not arguing over the relative merits of the PS3 and some other console, he's a formerly loyal Sony fan who feels burned by the removal of an extremely appealing feature. His comment belongs on this board just as much as your post belongs in this thread.

His question is bound to be flamebait. I'd prefer that kind of drivel be kept on system wars where every thread is an argument anyway. What does he expect to find here? Support? PS3 owners that will join him in throwing down their systems and revolting against Sony?

That's easy to say when your PS3 has 98% backwards compatability.

I would give that up in a heartbeat for a software emulation that can only play 10% of games but can upscale and increase compatible games through future updates.

[QUOTE="ramey70"]How do you know it's not "ready"? Do you have any first hand experience with it to make that claim? What is your definitiong of being "near ready"? 80% BC? 90%BC? It's obviously somewhat ready if it's already effective in at least making some gomes run.DilutedDante

Sony's statement was that it works with "a limited range of PS2 games". That doesn't sound remotely near ready to me. In fact that sounds pretty far from being ready. So far away that it shouldn't be implemented.

"Some games" isn't sufficient. "A limited range" isn't sufficient. The vast majority is, and from what Sony is saying, that isn't the case.

Actually what that tells me is that the emulator software itself is ready. However, it must be updated to work with additional games. It has to be implemented at some point and that time has come.

[QUOTE="ramey70"]Sony stated as far back as June that including the PS2 chip was a temporary fix and would be removed to allow software emulation.

Sony actually keeps their word and people get angry. Amazing. I've truly seen it all here.

The emulation software is obviously nowhere near ready, therefore, they should still be using the EE chip. Thats why people are annoyed.

[QUOTE="Vampyronight"][QUOTE="Deihmos"]I also remember them saying all PS2 games will be BC unlike Microsoft.bdhoff

You're right- because it won't be 100% compatible on day one, it will NEVER be compatible.

Please...do you believe it will ever be 100% compatible?

What we believe and what will happen are two different things.

Another possibility with the upcoming software emulation is that we may be able to play those downloadable PS1 games from the PSN store on our PS3, which currently can only be played on the PSP.

Ironically the only PS2 game I've wanted to play is Guitar Hero 1&2 and those don't even work with the PS3 regardless of the way it's emulated.
