The 3rd console business is sheer idiocy as well.   To define a trend you actually have several examples of supporting data.  Only nintendo has won two console generations and followed with a 3rd console.  No other company has ever done that. So to claim it's a "trend" is laughable and absurd.

I see we still have more of the "sony has never won a video format war" nonsense.   However, Sony has been very successful with formats when they partner with other companies.  Good thing they've done that with Blu-ray.

Bit of a silly time to make up lies, the day NPD numbers are released eh? 360 = 293,744 PS3 = 243,554

NPD numbers don't account for japanese sales.

ok it wouldnt make that much of a difference ps3 isnt sellin all that hot over there either, remember right now the wii and ds are hot in japan

Actually it could. If the PS3 sold just 51,000 more units than the 360 last month in Japan then it would mean the PS3 sold more.

Then I could say that x360 still sold more cause a couple hundred thousand were sold in Europe as well.

True, but it still wouldn't validate his claim that NPD numbers are the measuring stick for global console sales.

Mine will play BD movies in 720PTE_Lawrence

Okay why do people lie so blatantly for no reason. Anyone who has a PS3 and has used it to play BluRay movies will know that it won't play 720p. Does lying make this guy feel good.

Well why do you blatantly for no reason?
1080i looks better anyway pimperjones

Technically that's not a lie. It would be his opinion as he's stating a preference. If I say the sky is red I'm a liar. I say the sky would look better red instead of blue then I would not be a liar, since I'm stating an opinion of preference.

Fact stays that 720p was introduced due to supperior image quality at a time where they couldn't make good enough TV tubes for 1080p (which always has been the difinition set for HD TV).

720p exists because fixed pixel displays like LCD's and Plasmas don't produce native interlaced images. It was either 720p or 1080p.

I would go with the Sony as 1080p won't be that noticeable on a 37" set.   However, if I were you I would go with the 50" HLS series DLP from Samsung on Amazon.com for $1159.  It's a 720p and very nice with two HDMI ports.  I have the 56" 1080p version and I love it.  I ordered it from Amazon as well and the shipping is free and there is no sales tax. I had it in less than a week.  They even came in and unboxed it for me.

How many times do we go over this ?

But anyways, 720P = 1440i whereas 1080i = only 540P.....

Do the math,
bayern91
720p is not 1440i. Where do you people get this nonsense?

Actually, it's best if you use the native resolution of your TV.  You want to minimize as much alteration to the signal as possible.   For instance, your TV's native resolution is 720p.   If you set your PS3 to output in 1080i your TV will have to deinterlace and downscale the 1080i signal to display on the 720p native display.  However, if you are outputting in 720p then no alteration is required.
