I don't care if Blu-ray Tanks....the whole HD thing is just stupid. The difference between HD movies on a HD-TV and normal DVDs on a Normal TV is basically nothing...Ateast to me. Its just a fad and is nothing but hype... It offers no REAL benefits over DVDs and can sometimes cost more. hoola

Riiiiiiiight.

it is a small step at best over an upconverting DVD.

DXGreat1_HGL

I wonder if you actually believe this. Then again, you probably believe that Bluray is a Sony product. And who in their right mind would pay $29 for a Bluray movie when most can be had far cheaper than that?

I do photography for some side money. I refuse to pay what they want for PSCS. I use M$ XpPRO..I wont pay what MS wants for that ... I dont like paying 60$ a game. I dont pay 15-20$ for cd's or movies...GREED is whats killing everything...These big corporates are killing entertainment. Normal people cant afford to keep up...So, what do they do?....PIRATE...Corporates raise prices because of pirating....pirating keeps going, they arent fixing anything...

Enough with greed already...

DO I condone "sharring" ??....sure I do. I was brought up right....You share..

FunkyHeadHunter

Sharing implies there is consent from the property owner. Were you also brought up to respect the property of others?

[QUOTE="darkspineslayer"][QUOTE="Wasdie"]Even with its lack of AAAEs it is still somehow managing to sell more consoles worldwide than the 360 and is slowly closing the gap. How can this be possible?Wasdie

the bluray player has about as much casual apeal as wii sports. thats how. however theres not as many people willing to make the jump from DVD untill they stop producing them

Do you really think people are buying the PS3 soley for the blu-ray player?

I do, and so do many people at AVS Forum which is the premier forum on the net for audio/video enthusiasts. This especially true since the PS3 will be an amazing deal for a Profile 2.0 player at $399

I don't know why people get excited about HD movies. Am I the only one that scoffs when they look at the prices on HD movies at the store? Many are $35-40, a $15-20 premium over standard DVD prices I'm used to. Paying this premium becomes even harder to justify when most movies in upscaled DVD look just fine to me, even on a 1080p 110" projected home theater screen.

Corvin

Where the hell are you looking for movies at? Amazon's price for Bluray movies is nowhere near that high.

They don't support Open Source like everyone else in Europe and Asia.

Open Source is the future and M$ doesn't realize this.

LOL. Open source is not the future. Adopting an open source point of view would put 90% of the world's software companies out of business. Giving the source away for free is the same as giving your prosuct away for free. If your products are free, open source is great. If you want to make money, you need to protect your source.

Greed is a sin. I support the freedom of coding and the unity of the community. I'm using a Macbook Pro with Linux and XP. I have the best of all the worlds and I have to say the open source community is brilliant.

Unity, isn't that the basis of what America was founded on?

Actually, America was mostly founded on the basis of personal and property rights. Windows source code is the intellectual property of Microsoft. It's theirs to do with as they wish.

Blu-Ray helped knock out HD-DVD, but it certainly hasn't won yet.Bgrngod

Of course it won. Blu-ray isn't here to dethrone DVD. It can survive quite easily alongside it as a premium product.

Combine with the fact that most movies in HD-DVD started @ VC-1 where most initial BluRay were MPEG2 (basically same as DVD)codezer0

That's not entirely accurate. MPEG-2 can look as good or better than VC-1 (and even AVC/h.264) if given enough bitrate. In fact, many HDV cameras actually capture in MPEG-2 and that raw footage is later compressed with AVC or VC-1. The big problem with early BD releases using MPEG-2 was that the single layer discs at 25GB didn't provide enough room to give the MPEG-2 media the proper bitrate it required.

I guess the same reason they refer to VC-1 as being a Microsoft technology. They just don't know any better.
