[QUOTE="steviewonder89"]Lets be real here. If Ps3 had no Blu-Ray, it would cost around $400. With that price and power of the playstation brand it would be selling better than Wii and the 360 sales would be like 100K a month at this point.steviewonder89

I don't care. I wouldn't have bought it without Bluray.

Considering that the average person probably does not even know what Blu-Ray is and cannot afford a $600 console. Seriously, just walk through your local mall and survey people with the question "What is Blu-Ray?". I bet 75% of them will not know what you are talking about. The exclusion of Blu-Ray would have made ps3 another ps2.

I don't care what other people want. I wanted a Bluray player.  I doubt I'm in line with the majority but the majority of people in this country also like crap like Nsync and American Idol.

[QUOTE="Vandalvideo"][QUOTE="ramey70"]Sony Pictures posted a 55% increase in operating revenues for 2007. I can't believe you think that is poor. Vandalvideo

It is when you look at the menial gross revenue.

What should a Picture Studio's revenue be for you to consider it healthy?

During my time working at a picture studio as a professional photographer, we could gross that revenue on a large scale easily. Of course, sony isn't specialized in photography alone, so you have to take that into account as well. I'm merely saying its a possibility that they could have merely lost funding in the game department to prompt growth in another department.

Oh I agree totally with what you're saying.  I just don't get the blanket observation that Sony Pictures is performing poorly when we have no gauge to judge what a good performance for that department would be.

[QUOTE="Vandalvideo"]Do you have any proof they are from the "gaming department". Sony is doing pretty bad in a lot of departmentso ther than gaming.Vandalvideo

Yes. Yes I do.

http://www.networkworld.com/news/2007/051607-sonys-sales-profits-jump-but.html

They're having RECORD high sales in their other departments actually.

http://www.sony.net/SonyInfo/IR/financial/fr/06q4_sony.pdf Financial break downs of every other department for Sony Entertainment. While every other department is in the postitive, there are some like PIcture and Financial services that I would hardly call having a "high sales rates". The reason for the lay offs could merely be a restructuring of funds being distributed within the company to prompt growth in other areas entirely unattributed to the sales of the PS3.

That's impossible. Some of the most highly educated and respected minds in the business world post on system wars and have clearly said otherwise.

[QUOTE="Ibacai"]Tons of threads on this already and it's just layoffs. Happens regularly in the business world. Let me know when you doomsayers have anything else.Eltroz

Why don't we hear about Nintendo or Microsoft laying off people if it happens so often...

Lay off's happen when your not growing but instead shrinking...

Microsoft laid people off 76 people in the Xbox department just a few years ago.

Ya during the last gen xbox and it was less people then this lay-off. Xbox was in bad spot when that happen and look how many xboxs were sold last gen. This is not the first lay-off sony has done since since PS3 has come out. Sony has already liad off people from 3 other game divisions around the world. this is second string of lay-offs.

Which has zero bearing on the fact that he claimed you never hear of Microsoft laying off employees, which was innaccurate.
