The 5850 is delayed and 5870 is currently out of stock. Seems like there is a shortage of 5870 in different outlets. Newegg told that there will be about 200 gpus next week which is very low. Seems like Amd having hard time to get those things in the market

Radeon cards are generally heated more than nvidia cards. Hopefully there will be saphhire vapor-x cards with dual slot cooling so the temp will be much less than the reference design :D

The 5870 seems to have less hit when AA is turned on. I think it will do much better in dx11 api. But its too early for dx11. The card is not used at the full potential. We will see how it do in hardware tessellation when alien vs predator comes out.

Hey do you think that these reviews could be fudged somehow? I mean Nvidia is really desperate to stall and make some money on the GTX 295 until the GT300 series is released. If any of you happen to get a hold of this card could you do some legit benchmarks please? However, i do understand that there is some heavy CPU bottlenecking here cause the 5870 is one fast card and I don't think even the fastest CPU can handle it lol! See if any of you can benchmark it using a dual socket motherboard with two processors (that's the only way I can think of to reduce the bottleneck beyond overclocking).

Not impossible. Nvidia try to do whatever they can. They also stated that their $120 cards are better than the new 58xx series because they offer gpu accelarated physx lol. There's someone who ordered the saphhire 5870 i will post benchmark when he got it.

awww... i cant read that review... and the English Toms hardware doesn't have it up. They probably will tomorrow.

Also, Guru3d will have it up on the 23rd.

Oh u meaning while upgrading from 4870x2? yeah ofcourse a person who have a 4870x2 wont be that fool to upgrade his gpu to 5870 when the numbers are pretty identical... i was refering to people who are in the market to buy new graphics card upgrade and want to choose between 5870 and gtx295 they should select 5870 because it has quite good advantages over 295

in short best buy for a high end card if you dont alrdy have one hd 5850 runs the 295 badly through its paces and the 5870 takes it to class in fact it has time to match an asus mars stride for stride (gtx 285x2). but if you own either there really isnt a reason.. in crossfire however they will swamp anything currently available. the 295's only advantage is that its am multigpu and the 5850 and 5870 are single core gpu's if that werent that case 5870 hands down.

in conclusion if your upgrading from anything BUT an hd 4870x2, gtx 295 or asus mars wait it out a little longer. otherwise if you want an upgrade here is the best pick of the litter.

Dude thats not the advantage thats disadvantage. Anything multigpu on pcb is not very much compatible in games. Thats why u will see in some games in 2560 resolution gtx295 crashes and even u will see in some games the minimum fps is even lower than a gtx280 because games arent fully optimized for multigpu purpose still. Thats why people prefer a single powerful card rather than having weaker cards in sli even though that sli beats the single one. And moreover multigpu means more power consumption and more power means more heat and that means ultimately a little overclocking headroom. I think 5870 is a great buy over gtx295 not only because it costs more than $100 less but also because it is very close to 295 and having those advantages of being single card with 40nm taking less power, less heat and having overclocking headroom and ofcourse the new dx11

Better than gtx295 in some games especially when AA is cranked up.... great job indeed by Ati.. hope the number improves with some driver updates
