It's not like we needed Halo to have a good year. Seriously, ports are second helpings when it comes to PC gaming. We have plenty of titles you'll never see or experience on a console.
The Blade Centre I administer tends to disagree.
But whatever.
I don't remember ever dissing the good games on the PS2. They had a couple, you know.
When did this become ownage for Gears? They aren't even remotely similar in gameplay.
ONE MORE TIME FOR THE LOSERS IN THE CROUD:
THE ABILITY TO DO 1080P NATIVE IS ENTIRELY F**CKING LINKED TO THE ABILITY OF THE CONSOLE AND THE GAME ENGINE TO RENDER A TITLE AT THAT RESOLUTION.
SO F**K OFF WITH THE SONY MARKETING.
This has been a public service announcement for idiots who still think HDMI means anything beyond a digital interface and some DRM thrown in for good measure.

Try "the day after christmas"
That's near the end of Dec...
Irony being that they should probably be sold out after Christmas, no?
Sony had more competiton with Wii and 360... 360 had no competition but yet I walked into a store after christmas 05 and bought one...
Lucky you. because stores were sold out of 360 till around April where I was.
Stop making fanboy excuses.
I was about to say the same thing.
There was a major lack of 360's for some time.

You have to be kidding, right there.
The Cows will go well questioning Valve's ability. First you have to reply to my points. And I'm not only talking about Sony consoles.
Hardware.
That's it. That's the answer to your question.
A PC game has to run on a multitude of different hardware specs. That's why Windows gets panned while Apple fanboys think they're brilliant - OSX only runs on 5% of the world's computers.
A console has one hardware spec, and one set of rules to make it run. It's easier, it gets out the door quicker and it's cheaper to develop.
I don't really agree, that consoles have less cost than PC games in general, neither than it's harder (look at all the mods) so you should reconsider.
Firstly, console 'blockbuster' games have bigger advertising budgets, because they're appealing to people who might not actually ever visit gaming websites or communities. PC titles generally sell through plain osmosis from online interaction or through the usual outlet of magazines and stores. Consoles appeal to a different audience and publishers are much more willing to spend cash on buses, movie trailers and whatnot. That makes a big difference in the final cost of the product.
Secondly, the first round of console titles for a given developer will always be more expensive because they spend more time in man-hours actually learning the new architectures, I admit. The cost goes down over time, but those costs do have to be soaked up initially.
Thirdly, a plethora of mods mean a developer used tools that anybody with a degree of skill could also use, or they made better versions of the tools they used (see Hammer) for public release. Also note that the majority of mods either aren't as good as the source material, or take a veeeery long time to make.
None of this actually has anything to do with the simple fact that developing an engine for a console requires exactly one stream of development. You have the tools, make it do the job. Developing for a PC means that your code might actually offend a bunch of computers that have a certain combination of hardware - this happens all the time with video or sound cards, for instance. It makes it more difficult to judge exactly how your engine is going to be recieved. Thus, it requires a dint more talent a great deal more time.

Phil .1 Gabe .0
Guy who actually makes games for a living - 1
Guy who sells consoles, and has a very big interest in exactly how well his console is receieved - 0
You think Gabe's alone in his evaluation? He can say this, because he's Gabe fricken Newell.
