Sad times when the best bit of news to come out about your online service is games 'not' needing it!

Yeah, so exactly what I said then, just in ten times the amount of words.

Just to clarify this now means your Switch profile works in exactly the same way as an Xbox or PS gamer tag. When you create it, and setup the online side, that's it. It's one fixed profile.

You can still unlink your profile from a Switch, or add it to another.

What you can no longer do say, is unlink an EU online account from your profile and link a US one.

This is basically non-news. Who actually swapped out online accounts from their gamer profile in the first place. Microsoft and Sony have never allowed you to unlink an online account, because there's literally no reason to do so.

You no longer want a Switch because the gamer profile now works exactly the same as a PS/Xbox gamer tag? Ok

No, it means that your 'online account' and your Switch 'profile' are now one entity. In exactly the same way as your PS or Xbox Gamertag.

Basically Nintendo is only just catching up and having one unified account. You can unlink from the Switch and move it etc just like any other gamer profile.

@itchyflop: I'm not into competitive multi-player really no. I like some co-op games, but I prefer them local co-op which Nintendo continue to do fantastically in comparison. I always play Monster Hunter online though, so I have payed for online while I played World and then cancelled after.

With Switch it's biggest benefit to me is it's handheld, drop when the kids or missus needs something, which is lots, and then pick up half hour later for a bit more.

And I can play with the kids or mates on the TV like 4 player on loads of games. Nintendo didn't really need lock the few games you even need multiplayer on behind a pay-wall in my opinion. Especially not without a substantial benefit, it's called a service for a reason.

TLDR: Because AI programming, cut-scenes, writing story, set pieces and additional assets all cost money that doesn't add to the repeat purchase model.

Basically we want your money; we don't want to spend ours. Give us your money.

Still absolutely no reason to pay for Nintendo's multiplayer ransom, I refuse to call it a service. The NES games are fine but seriously this is 2018, I'd prefer a couple of NES and a Switch game as 'freebies'.
