[QUOTE="MotherRussia"]So I shouldnt install any other antivirus apart of Microsoft Security Essentials?CellAnimation
The choice of virus/security software is up to you, but given the great reviews and my own person experience I'll be moving all of my machines to Security Essentials sooner rather than later. IMHO there is no reason to use anything else.

MSE has SpyNet which can't be turned off without some hack

As far as performance whise go your rig is strong so performance won't be a big issue. You can speed up boot times by going into msconfig and using all your cpu cores at startup instead of the defaulted 1.Sparticus247
i'm pretty sure windows uses all the cores by default...and that setting is just to LIMIT to less cores if you want to....for troubleshooting purposes

[QUOTE="ch5richards"]I noticed VERY little difference between Vista and Win7. Performance wise they are basically the same for me, now I don't have SSD and I have heard that is one place Win7 is far superior to Vista in. I actually prefer Vista to Win7. It really has nothing to do with Win7, just that Vista is just as good and I am more use to the way Vista works. One thing I do not like about Win7, there is no sidebar. It has gadgets, but no sidebar. This might not matter to most people but I really like the sidebar. I was able to copy my Vista sidebar files into Win7 and was able to have my sidebar that way, but I still rarely boot into Win7. One thing I like about Win7 over Vista is the changing desktop background. I wish Vista could randomly change photos of the background. Long and the short of it is that Win7 is a great OS, but so is Vista. I see no reason to avoid Win7, but I also see no reason to upgrade from Vista to Win7.

there are programs for vista that change the background here's a good free one http://www.johnsadventures.com/software/backgroundswitcher/

Yes, as far as I know many programs work on W7 that didn't work on Vista.
