okay sorry that my review is so late. we all know how college and homework can be. this is my review for “scare” which aired last wednesday. and away we go…

for those you of who missed "scare", what happen?

this episode starts with clark in the loft and lana shows up. lana tells clark that she made a mistake dating jason and that she has never stopped loving him. they kiss and then jason shows up and starts beating the mess out of clark. jason goes to lana and says that no one can protect her from him. lana goes to jason and shanks him with a knife/scissors ( something ) and he is shocked and falls from the loft and then the scene cuts to jason falling onto a table at the talon. lana rushes from the talon apartment to jason’s aid. but jason has lost consciousness.

jason is at the smallville hospital in a comma and chloe and clark show up questioning his condition and what happen. lana explains that jason went to the talon to pick her up and she heard him collapse while she was upstairs. lana tells chloe and clark if they can go pick up jason’s insurance clark from her apartment. lana and chloe are snooping around lana’s apartment and find out that jason had an appointment at luthorcorp without lana knowing. chloe and clark show up at luthorcorp and split up. the notice that luthorcorp is practically empty. lex eventually finds clark and snaps about him being there and calls someone to pick him up. jason’s condition is brought up and lex begins asking questions about his conditions. someone from luthorcorp security shows up in a transport cart and picks clark up.

chloe has found herself isolated in a very dark area of the plant and sees a women in the distance sitting with her back facing her. chloe assumes that it is her mom and as she get closer, the women reveals a monstrous face. chloe starts freaking out and a white stray jacket is wrapped around her. chloe begins to panic and runs around the plant until clark and the security guy accompanying him find her. chloe passes out in clark’s arms.

lex is now in an isolated part of the plant talking to about the accident that happen and is shocked that a fear gas/toxicant is still leaking. lex informs his project leader that the fear gas has escaped the compound and the project leader says that there is a antidote but it has to be heated and will not be ready for another five hours. clark is back home in his kitchen talking to his parents about more cases similar to jason’s being reported across smallville. lana stops by and just came from the hospital to inform clark that once a person is infected and falls into a comma from the panic state that it eventually leads to death. lionel is speaking to one of his defense attorney’s and she said that the appellate court has reversed the guilty verdict and that he is free man. lionel tells his defense attorney that he is a changed man and the does not wish to leave because he is guilty of some many crimes and deserves to be punished. she informs him that no matter what he thinks or feels that he can not stay in prison any longer.

lana and clark are at the torch and she is talking to clark about how strange jason has been acting lately. lana is convinced that he is hiding something from her. clark and lana are examining some kind of local map radar and notice a big cloud expand over two miles over smallville from the luthorcorp. lana then goes into some kind of nightmare state and she finds herself in a room with the dead bodies of all the people closet to her. a women then appears and tells lana that everyone who is important to her is dead because of her and lana panics. lana then passes out in clark’s arms. 

lex is talking to the project leader and he insists that the antidote may or may not work. lex is insistent that the antidote should be administered to one of a sick luthorcorp employees who have been isolated to avoid contamination. the antidote is administered and the employee panics and begins to seizure from it. lex tears his contamination suit as a result of this and the employee who the antidote was administered to dies.

lex is talking to the head doctor and the hospital is full of exposed patients. lex explains that a experimental gas escaped luthorcorp earlier and that his head project leader is close to an antidote. clark rushes in with lana in his arms demanding a doctor. she is taken into a room and clark confronts lex about him knowing and being able to prevent this. lex is explaining when all of a sudden there are explosions emanating from inside and outside the hospital. meteors are falling from the sky all over the place. clark rushes into lana’s room to check if she is alright. he checks her room window and sees a second meteor shower and a large meteor heading straight for lana’s room. he goes over to shield lana and the meteor crashed through the room window and wall and breaks into several shreds of meteor rock. lana realizes what happen and clark stubbles to the ground because of the kryptonite. lana comes to the conclusion that clark is not even human and that he is responsible for her parent’s death. lana picks us a shred of kryptonite and punches clark.

clark wakes up and finds himself on a transport bed in the hospital. clark is concerned about his parents and is leaving. a doctor sees clark leaving and insists that he stays since his the first person to awaken from the panic comma of all the patients administered. clark rushes home to find jonathan and martha unconscious. clark superspeeds to luthorcorp and confronts lex. clark says that if he woke up from the panic state that maybe there is something in his blood that can cure everybody. the head project manager and lex believe that it would take too long to synthesize an antidote from his blood and they point out to clark that they are already working on an antidote but it has to heat to one thousand degrees kelvin before it can be administered.

when lex and the head project leader have their backs turned clark uses his heat vision to heat up the antidotes to the required temperature. a bell rings signaling that the antidote has reached one thousand degrees kelvin. everybody is shocked. lex takes the antidote and administers it to himself. lex passes out.

lex begins having a dream/nightmare sequence. lex is the president of the united states and it is a beautiful day. something is coming from the ground in the background and launching themselves into the sky. then you see the mass critical explosions across the globe and several missiles sailing across the sky. lex is left smiling in a field of human bones that stretches across the screen. lex wakes up and the head project manager is glad and wants to take the antidote to the smallville hospital to be administered to all the patients. clark smiles at lex and tell him that he is going to be alright.

lionel is waking out of prison a free man and a black limousine. he steps into the limousine and lionel chuckling and smiling says. “I should have known.” clark, martha, and jonathan are walking through the front door. they all talk about what happen and clark’s parents are worried that he almost gave up his secret. clark worries that he will never be able to open up to anyone. clark’s parents tell him to be patient. lana and jason are back at lana’s apartment and he is leaving her. lana asks jason if it is because of his mother because she feels that he has not been the same since. jason basically leaves without giving an actual explanation.

clark and chloe are at the torch. chloe reveals to clark that she found her mother who months ago and that she has been committed to a mental institution and that she fears that it is hereditary. she asks clark what his worst fear was. he explains that he feared that everyone he cared about was gone and that he was all alone. chloe suspects clark since he was the only one who awoke from the panic comma. clark is reluctant to explain but chloe is not bother by it. she relates to clark that keeping secrets has never made her feel more alone like the secret of her find her mother and that not confiding in other people your secrets can result in someone being alone forever. clark remains silent.

frequently asked questions about this episode:

( q ) why did lex have cassandra’s vision? ( a ) i think the writers included it because it was such a cool scene from season one but it did not come out as appealing to someone who had already seen it though. other than that i have not idea.

( q ) should the meteor not have killed clark on impact? ( a ) no. the meteors became ironized after krypton exploded and reentering earth’s atmosphere. iron acts similar to lead in shielding the effects of the radioactivity of kryptonite. so clark was not exposed to as much kryptonite as actually made up by the meteor. so to clark it felt more like getting punched by someone holding kryptonite rather than being exposed to a kryptonite bomb. that and take into effect that in clark’s nightmare he does not fear death as much as he fears being feared because of his secret. he is not going to die in his nightmares induced by the kryptonite fear gas.

( q ) was the head project leader that lex was talking to at luthorcorp doctor jonathan crane? ( a ) i thought about that too but there was nothing in “scare” other than the fear gas to indicate that the guy that lex was talking to was actually jonathan crane. it would be cool is he was though.

( q ) who was in the limousine that picked up lionel from prison? ( a ) i have heard all kinds of theories from you guys. bridgette crosby? jason’s mother? even lex? i guess “we” are just going to have to wait and see…

( q ) does chloe know clark’s secret? ( a ) she knows something.

( q ) when did chloe’s father get rehired by luthorcorp? ( a ) i missed that too. chloe’s father was still unemployed in “jinx” and no new information was presented in either “spell” or “bound” to indicate that he got his job back at luthorcorp. but it makes sense if you think about it. kind of. chloe’s father lost his job as a result of lex and lionel in “whisper”. with lionel out of the picture, lex would be more than willing to help chloe and her father out. after all they did help send lionel to prison. 

( q ) is lois lane seeing anybody? ( a ) yeah. she is with me. stay away from her. i am the jealous type. remember that scene in “scare” where lana said that lois’s strand of hair was “no good”? yeah that was me. 

the good:

okay this episode was about average i guess. chloe and clark kind of stole the show and the special effects were awesome. lex and clark did a good job in their scenes are far as i am concerned. martha and jonathan kent did a good job like always. even jason was okay. ( although he was unconscious throughout most of the show ) i liked the ending with chloe and clark. it kind of leaves you hanging. it was great. and the second meteor shower special effects were very cool. lionel seems to be almost too convincing to others about his new changed for the better self. the scene with him walking out of prison wearing an all white suit and stepping into the limousine was cool. i wonder who was in the limousine? *evil laugh* it was me! ha ha ha! anyway this episode could have been better with some scenes and some parts were kind of strange even for a fear inducing kryptonite fear gas but there is nothing wrong with a good average episode.

the bad:

yeah um... lex's fear dream/nightmare sequence. now for those of you who missed out on the first season of smallville lex's dream might have appeared kind of cool, right? well i felt kind of ripped off and confused. ( this is kind of spoilery if you missed an episode from the first season and i thought about this but it was three years ago so... ) in the first season there is an episode called "hourglass". in this episode there in an elderly women named cassandra who can see into the future. towards the end of the episode she touches lex and she sees his future. except for the missiles and critical explosions in "scare" lex's nightmare and cassandra's vision are exactly identical! i know speical effects are expensive and smallville has incorporated/repeated special effects from some episodes into others in the past and it really was no big deal because it was only for a few seconds but they could have done better with this episode. and the whole time i could not help but think, "why is lex having cassandra's vision?" it was confusing but i kind of really knew all along that it was just added by the writers because it was such a cool scene in season one and it was but if i wanted to see the vision of lex as the future president i would have just popped in my one of the disks from smallville season one into my dvd player. this was the only thing that bothered me about this episode or i forgot about everything else after i saw this... "blunder." it was a cool scene though it just could have been so much better. it really could have.
