In a bizarro world, if Sony agrees with Microsoft, it would be day one DLC and microtransactions. Publishers are just wary of a backlash now. I wonder what will they say 6 months from now.
@rawkstar007 @Furwings Go to Gamestop website and look at the trade-in credit value of Nintendo products including the 3DS compared to so called AAA games of other franchises. Mario Kart Wii is still mostly wanted and that is more than 5 years old!
"Yo Cliff. I'm really happy for you and I even like your Jazz Jackrabbit game a lot on PC but Super Mario Bros. is still one of the the best platforming games in the history of videogames."
for paladin1459: The scenario you are describing only happens on STEAM on PCs(during sales, I discovered how good the Warhammer franchise and Company of Heroes are during their Steam sales). New games wont go as low for $10.00, maybe $15.00 but not sub $10.00 after 6 months from its release date.
"You cannot have game and marketing budgets this high while also having used and rental games existing," Bleszinski said. "The numbers do NOT work people."
But the problem should not be blamed on used games since if the game is a turd with a 50-100 million budget then it will still be a turd. Even if the used game market is removed or game pirates, if the game is a turd it will not sell to high expectations of the publisher. Nintendo IPs such as Mario, Mario Kart are called 'evergreen' games due to their deep entertainment value and the Wii is the easiest console among the three to mod, and both still sold 30+ million each as of 2013.
I know that he is against used games but used games are an indirect marketing tool for a game franchise. I did not bought Mass Effect 1 new because I thought it was all about shooting. When I saw it at a bargain bin for $8.00, I bought it and it became a favorite of mine that I bought the Mass Effect 2 and 3 for full price. The same thing happened with Gears of War. So his reasons are nonsensical.
