I THINK, that digital sales aren't taken into account when disclosing sales b/c they're cheaper to distribute, due to the manufacturing costs of a box, manual, disc, shipping etc. Basically, digital sales are close to free revenue, so companies don't care to disclose that. They just want to know how much money they're making back from the manufacturing of the game. This is all what I think at least, not sure if true.
@lowdan666 dude, that is such bad logic and just nonsensical and shortsighted. Good luck here @Motroucet , I think I'm gonna finally X off this page lol
@Motroucet alot of great examples and detection. Path of Exile in particular. I've even heard that some P2P turned F2P MMO's have got BETTER after they went F2P - AoC, SWTOR, etc.
@Motroucet true. The only issue w/ that is that it's usually for online games/MMO's (that need constant updating and input even post-release, so betas only make perfect sense) and it's usually for PC games. I love Betas. Helped me decide to NOT buy SW:TOR!
But what about the console games w/ an (alleged) focus on single-player? A demo for Assassin's Creed 3 would've been great. Or Soulcalibur 5. Or any other game one may have been disappointed with. Granted, a demo can only go so far in regards to expectations. I'm sure there've been great demos for non-great games. So even demos as a way to "test" a game before buying can still be flawed, I admit.
@lowdan666 and I'll ask again if you've played Path of Exile, Korean MMO's, etc. There ARE F2P games that aren't B2W out there that still have great gameplay design. Rare, but it happens.
@lowdan666 well, to be fair, I was referring to the comment above the one you quoted me on. About wanting all the pets as sounding like addictive behavior. I took that as inference that gaming addiction is part of the problem, like what WCK619 was saying down below. Just not a very good comment system on Gamespot's part!
@somberfox - I think she meant "more of their time THAN BEFORE on mobile" - I agree, it'd be nice for demos to become more commonplace, like in the old days... - it's not the same. Asking EA to make a small-budget game in hopes of hitting it big is different than asking The Behemoth to just make a game. Different company models, resources to allocate, employees to pay appropriately, etc.
