@Atzenkiller: Yeah they were running out of ideas for stretch goals at the end. They were never saying that it would cost $1 million for each stretch goal. It's just meant to be a symbolic perk at each million.
@almatha: That's because of the netcode. It's locking everyone at around 30fps max in the persistent universe. 3.0 is supposed to implement brand new netcode, that should largely solve this issue.
They are NOT switching engines. Lumberyard is a CryEngine Fork, which is what CIG is already using. They are just merging the modifications they made into Star Citizen's current engine to take advantage of their cloud based infrastructure. And in fact, it's already done.
You should probably work on that whole "journalism" thing.
