I have the epic edition sitting at home. I'm waiting to start playing until I actually have time, but I've played the demo over and over and I got to watch my boyfriend play through it last night between making dinner and taking care of my son.

I wouldn't say they only last for a single hit. They can make one-hit kills, but I think you have to know when to use them. I've been playing around with them a little here and there trying to find the best use. Don't really use them much since I get along just fine without them.
