There's always going to be haters for one game and then bias. I recommend World of Warcraft. The other 2 are not even out and I know nothing (nor care) about Rift. I have played WoW for 6 years since launch date. I hardcore raided up until this expansion. I PvP'd a bit during Burning Crusade. I enjoy soloing the most. The game has a lot to offer. You can screw off and do achievements by yourself mostly or group with people. The game is constantly updated and the world is huge. The forum community sucks and Blizzard staff have been **** this expansion, but don't let that turn you off. There's a lot of great classes and specs to choose from. If you like a good story, WoW has great lore and fantastic quests. Leveling is much easier now and all classes are pretty interesting from the start. So give a try to a few. I got a couple months left in me. The game is just getting stale and I am burnt out. However that's 6 solid years of playing. There are still people raiding hardcore into this expansion. You will be hooked. Try it.

yeah it did get off topic. I have never played Fallout 3 but I plan to soon. My friend owns the Game of the Year edition and he says it's worth it. He says the ending of the game was disappointing but the amount of content he got with GOTY edition made up for that. I believe Fallout 3 is made by the same company as Oblivion (Elder Scrolls) and uses the same engine. So there is probably a mod community out there with some awesome stuff.

Shogun isn't really the era I like. The game looks good though. Medieval is my favourite. Then modern-future era stuff. World War 2 stuff like Company of Heroes is good too though.

[QUOTE="burnoutt-"]Also, I know it didn't start with Fallout 3. But I personally need good graphics, or I won't play a game. :-p

deadesa

That is a horrible rule to live by. Some of the best games have "antiquated" graphics. The original fallout games being a strong example.

not really. Some people don't want to look at games that are total ****. Good gameplay won't always keep my attention if the game looks disgusting. I have exceptions though.

just reading through all your responses. Homeworld 1 or Homeworld 2? I have never seen either in stores, might have to find them online. Supreme Commander 1 or Supreme Commander 2? #2 looks really good but from reviews it sounds like it's too easy. I already said I played Stronghold. The game was fantastic. Very fun gameplay, sweet map editor, awesome battles, great graphics. I heard the others that followed in the series sucked though. Dawn of War... Can you build buildings in that? CoH you can do buildings, but there's no gathering. You probably know this don't know why I am typing it lol. I like both gathering RTS and getting check points. I really do enjoy building bases though, not just armies.

I remember playing on a friends console - I hate consoles - so that might be a reason I hate it. This was before Oblivion was out and I thought it looked crap. The combat was awful and very stiff. The quests were alright. I honestly didn't play it that long. The world seemed a lot bigger though. I bought Oblivion the day it came out and I was hooked. I beat it once with just a basic warrior and loved it. It didn't take me too long, but then again... I played hours on end. I only did the warriors and thieves guild on that character. My second character was an assassin-like elf. I did all the side missions and that was amazing. Finally I did the game once over again on a spell caster and it was great. I did all the guilds, I probably missed quite a few side quests. Then I found out about mods. I probably downloaded 50 mods which made the game totally different. It was like a brand new game. I downloaded something called Obscura's or Obscuro's - can't remember - and it added a ton of quests and content. I downloaded new models, sweet armor found in dungeons, a MUCH better leveling system, mercenary mods, etc. I really don't get the trash talking on Oblivion. Morrowind was definitely not better in combat. The game looked like crap for it's release era. Maybe it had better quests and guilds? That does matter to me but I never made it that far as I did not personally own it. Oblivion is Medieval which I like. The game was stunning which mattered to me. Finally mods made it a brand new game. Anxiously looking forward to Skyrim.

yeah I have to agree with the poster above me. I actually came to this site from the WoW forums. No game will kill WoW and WoW will probably be around for 10 years or even more. If Blizzard can keep making money off it, I see no reason for it just to disappear. I have played WoW for 6 years, since release. I got 10 85s I hardcore raided until Cataclysm came out. Cataclysm is a great expansion, but it really hasn't added much. WoW is the same old game. The only really new non-expansion things they can do is update the player models, add more dungeons + gear obviously, and more minor achievements. I am pretty burnt out - another reason why I joined this forum. I will probably play WoW for another few months as raiding and PvP do not interest me anymore. Games like Ultima Online and Everquest are still going strong after years, so WoW will too. Guild Wars is the only other MMO I played, only for 4 months and it is still very strong apparently. If any MMO wants to compete with WoW - not kill don't get that confused - they need take to elements from WoW. - Achievements system is a must in any game now. Look at Call of Duty and even Counter-Strike. Achievements keep people interested and add competition. - Graphics. Make the game look amazing. Add good physics and rag doll effects. But how far can you go with an MMO? - Good story. WoW has great lore. You better have a good story if you want to attract people.
