[QUOTE="sexygirl6t9"][QUOTE="ttobba07"]have you looked at the laptop I linked? $549 dell depending on where and taxes + shipping... I know NCIX.ca will be cheap because it is right near me. It's up to you. Just not sure on the battery. I recommended the dell as I know what battery life you can get with that. alright thank you for the response. I think the laptop we returned had about 3 and a half hour of battery life. I don't know if that's average now or what.Just get ur friend a new Inspiron 15R from dell with the sandy bridges. They get around 7 hours of battery life and are durable. They start at $499. I would personally choose the default $549 option as it has a 500gb hdd and 4gb of ram.

Get a lenovo of some sort, they have a reputation for being built like an APC. And btw, you can't get a mac for 650$ :P

Not from stats i.e. read http://purplejunction.com/2009/11/20/3-year-laptop-malfunction-rates-asus-beats-out-apple/
Factor in malfunction rates with laptop vendors who heavily sold NVIDIA Geforce 8400/8500/8600 based GPUs i.e. google NVIDIA "bumpgate".
thanks for the graph. Asus is solid, just what I expected. chertoo thanks for the response on the laptop. There are only 2 reviews on NCIX and I googled a few. Apparently it's a pretty good laptop for the price. It's $100 OFF on the site so that's a steal. Everywhere else is $630+. If more people could look at that Asus and give me their own opinion that would be nice. The Lenovo linked above looks pretty good as well. A little bit cheaper.I know you can't get a Mac for that cheap. I don't want Mac fanboys coming in here telling me to have my friend purchase one.Get a lenovo of some sort, they have a reputation for being built like an APC. Again this is for my friend it's not my money. He does not have hundreds to throw around.
The HP's in the store had horrible touchpads as I described above. Maybe there are some really good HP's, but everything in that price range seemed very low quality.
So far I have read Asus (which I expected) to be good. So maybe I will have to order one online for him.
