To be fair, Aveline does exist. I think a lot of people just take objection to Ubisofts awful excuse for not putitng female assassins into the co-op, the excuse being 'too much work'.
I'm sorry, but i really don't understand how you can't relate to a female character in a game. Last i checked, she is still human (representatively, of course), and humans tend to share the same emotions. As long as the motivations of the character are properly developed, and the characters personality itself, you should be able to relate to it, regardless of gender.
There might be, but apart from that, there could be some women who just feel rather alienated by the gaming industry, and they'd be completely justified in that.
