Don't use compressed air, if dust blows in certain spots it will screw up your ps3.

Inside- Low powered vacuum.

Outside- Soft cloth, like a shirt or something.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha-Never heard of anyone using their shirt to clean their PS3-LMAO !!

I do that to. It's pretty effective for dust on the outside of the case.

OK-But why not just use a proper yellow duster?-They're cheap as chips to buy-usually £1 for bowt 10 of them.

I don't clean my PS3 unless it gets really dusty cos its a Phat one and they tend to scratch to hell and back no matter how carefull you dust them!

Is there a specific one that I should keep in mind? I already have an hdd that I use to store backup files for my computer. Does any hdd from Amazon qualify for use to increase my ps3's GB capacity?

thattotally

Why don't you buy a bigger internal hard drive for your PS3-something like a Western Digital Scorpio Blue 320GB or 500Gb(both available from Amazon),fit it in and use the hard drive you take out of your PS3 for back up-all you need is a sata enclosure to put it in-which is easy to do and away you go.

Why would 60 GB die?

virus1000

Yea i had a 60Gb in launch in 2006-Sold it though after approx 2 years cos i was afraid it was gonna break on me after reading more and more reports of the YLOD-especially in 60GB models.

And lets face it-if you now buy a used 60Gb then its gonna be at least 2 years old and probrably seen hundreds,if not thousands,of hours of use,and compared to buying a new slim,it will be like going out to buy a car and choosing an old banger over a new one-And i'm sure you wouldn't do that, given the choice?

I don't know if you remember my last topic about me opening the ps3 cause i was just curious. I wanted to know if it collected a lot of dusts over two years and I found out that it wasn't really a big mess to clean. A month later, I got the ylod when it was still on after playing Demon's Souls. I switched to SF4 and 5 min later I got the red blink or yellow light of death. I couldn't get the disc out, so I decided to take the darn thing apart again to see what went wrong. Last time, I just cleaned so I didn't really do a complete disassembly, but this time I got to the motherboard. The thermal paste was completely dried, so I assume that was the cause it. why did it really dry up? Well, the more you use it, the more you cook the paste. If you notice like a lag in gameplay and maybe frequent game freezes, then maybe that's a sign that something wrong with your cpu or gpu. The paste helps the cpu and gpu dissipate heat through the heat sink. If the cpu or gpu continues to do work, then the increase in heat due to work will cause the metals in them to melt, separate, disconnect, etc. We also have to take into account that many do not properly let the system to cool down. Can you avoid this? It's hard to avoid and eventually all the 60gb launch consoles are going to fall for the infamous ylod. Even if you do manage to find a way to fix it, you will probably have to repeat the process again in the near future. So...what about the slim?? It's kinda too soon to say cause we don't know how well Sony structured it this time, but I can say for sure that no electronic lasts forever. Any suggestions? Like I said, nothing lasts forever, so I would recommend getting the latest model just to last you another glorious 5 years (just a guess) of gaming. I traded my 60gb and got a slim. Note: BBC is just going to hold you back, so you gotta learn how to let it go and move "onwards."

Yea i think you may well be right about all launch 60GBs eventually failing.I had my launch 60 for approx 2 years before deciding to part with it in March 2009,mainly cos i was reading more and more reports of YLOD-especially on 60s.

So in september 2009 i managed to get a really good deal on a brand new 80GB,and dont really miss the B.C. of my older 60GB cos i now got an original Phat Ps2 to play all my PS2 games on

oh and one more question.. this is probably a long shot.. but say I take out the old hard drive and place it in an external case, will I be able set it to recovery mode, even though I didn't run the backup process?TIGERLUCK

Well i always thought the YLOD on a Playstation was a hard drive failure??
