As humans, we have many things that help us get through life. We all have a brain, a heart, hands, feet, and other body parts and organs that help us get through life and survive. On top of having these body parts and organs we have 5 senses, each with a different purpose. These 5 sense are powerful, and while we can live without them, it would be very difficult to. When ever I hear someone ask someone else what they are happy for it is usually a material object or a body part. While I am happy to hear people say they are happy for body parts (because some people are missing body parts we have), I am a bit mad that people very rarely say they are happy to hear, see, taste, smell, and touch. It seems like people forget how important these senses are as they can save your life, and they make our life now easier. So, I will spend the next few paragraphs talking about our senses and how they are important.
Sight: I will start with sight. Sight is probably our most important sense as it allows us to see. This allows us to play video games, drive, watch t.v., see loved ones and friends, watch all of the miraculous animals and plants of nature, and do so much more. On top of that, sight is also an important defense. Imagine how hard it would be to defend yourself from something if you can't see where it is or where it is coming from. Also, sight is an important tool. It would be impossible to do things like fix objects and build building without sight. Sight is probably a more important tool then the actual tools are. I can only imagine what a blind person has to go through in life. Having to have a person or special dog guide you through it. We also have to remember that sight allows us to see color. Lets not forget about those whom are color blind and can not see in the correct color. We must remember how important sight truly is.
Hearing: Next is hearing, which is probably our second most important sense. Hearing allows us to hear all the sound of life, whether it be an alarm clock to wake us up or a car horn to alert us. Think of all the things you wouldn't be able to do without hearing; you wouldn't be able to hear music, hear the voices of friendsor loved ones, or hear the sounds of nature (animals, water, etc). Also, not being able to hear puts you in danger when driving. What if someone honked their horn to alert you that someone was about to crash into you or if a police car put on their sirens to tell you to get out of the way, you wouldn't be able to hear it. Hearing is also an important defense. What if someone was shooting a gun or coming up behind you to attack you; since you can't hear anything it may cause you to walk right to the area where that person was shooting the bullets or it may allow the person that was about to attack from behind get away with it. Think of all the things deaf people must go through. Not being able to hear is no joke.
Smell: Now we are at smell. Smell is one a lot of people see as a bad thing because of all the "bad smells" there are. Well, I'm sure all of those people would take that back when they couldn't smell things like flowers, food, and candles anymore. Also, those "bad smells" people complain about can save your life. Imagine you couldn't smell and you just had a gas leak in your house, well since you can't smell that gas you won't react to it in anyway and your house can end up blowing up. What if there was a fire and you were sleeping, sinse you can't smell you wouldn't smell the smoke so you wouldn't wake up and you could end up dieing because of it. Next time you wish you couldn't smell think about it.
Taste: Here we are at taste. Taste allows us to taste all of our favorite foods and drinks. Imagine what it would be like to eat or drink something without being able to taste, it just wouldn't be the same. Taste also help alert us of foods and drinks that are spoiled or bad so we don't get sick. Eating and drinking just wouldn't be the same without the taste.
Touch: On to the last sense, touch. Touch pretty much allows us to feel everything from itching to numbness. Think about what it would be like without touch; you wouldn't be able to feel anything. I know this may seem like a good thing, but it is not. If we didn't have the touch sense and we put our hands over fire, then we wouldn't have that little "voice" in our head telling us to "move your hand!" Also, what if you just got in a car accident? Sure, it may seem good that you weren't able to feel that impact, but look at it this way. What if your organs got damaged from that impact and you weren't able to feel it? You would just keep going through life until your body collapses from all of those injuries you got but didn't know about because you couldn't feel it. No matter all of the annoying things that can come from your touch sense, it could end up saving your life.
These 5 senses need to be appreciated more then they are!
