Talking about paid-for DLC character packs before the game has even come out is such a slap in the face to the consumers. Netherealm are so damn pathetic. DLC used to be a way to expand a game months or years after the game came out as a tribute to the fans who wanted more adventures in the game - now it's just a way for studios to develop content during the creation of the game for the sole purpose of withholding it and charging extra for it so they can milk an extra quarter of the price of the original purchase price to add three characters to a game in each "add-on". What a crock of shit. This is just incredible.

@Ovirew: Nah, Nintendo's rabid, fanatical fanbase is what will drive their sales. Nintendo could release a miniature version of the NES system that plays 30 classic NES games, release extremely limited quantities in the US, have scalpers buy up 90% of the stock and resell them on eBay for 10 times the price, and then Nintendo could decide to discontinue the product after 6 months despite overwhelming desire for the little bastard, and people would still love and praise Nintendo as the best gaming company ever.

Wait... that sounds familiar....

@Daveof89: No, it's called supply and demand. If there is clearly a demand for supply, it makes more sense for the manufacturer to produce more products instead of having their potential profits be lost to scalpers.

I can't wait for a handful of people to buy 90% of the stock of these and then sell them on eBay and Amazon for $500 a piece.

@ernelson1976 I've never heard of PC gamers complaining about CD keys or the fact they can't trade in their PC games. There are too many entitled and selfish console gamers who are only looking out for #1. Doesn't matter if hundreds of people lose their job when their development company goes under from lack of video game sales and trade-ins crippling their business, it's all about their own wants. The simple fact is, pre-owned sales are destroying the gaming industry because developers see zero profit from those sales, it's all 100% profit in Gamestop or other's pockets. If a triple A title that takes $100million to create sells 1 million copies, that's $60,000,000... of which the actual developer only sees a portion of the proceeds. They lose money. They go out of business. If people want the video game industry to continue, they have to accept that pre-owned is hurting the chances of the industry continuing.

@thenephariouson @smoke_dog_4ever Agreed. It's a little "conservative" of an approach, I guess, may even oppose people's first amendment rights of freedom of speech (this being their freedom to buy the games/items for whatever they purpose they want to), but heck, they're wanting all these new gun laws and restrictions. If they see video games as a problem, the solution is to, like you said, find stricter means of keeping them from kids. But ultimately, like I said, it's the parent's fault for subjecting their kids to violent video games. People want to blame the gun for murder, not the person holding it. Same concept with video games.

"Her biggest issue is that the game industry is perceived as more sexist than other male-dominated workplaces, when in fact this may not be the case. At the same time, she acknowledged EA employs far more men than women, and this is an "issue to fix." "

Eh.... the only problem with this statement is for the same reason why I don't believe in affirmative action as a general solution. You shouldn't employ anyone because of their sex, race, religion, etc, just to fill some quota. You should hire the best person for the job regardless of "x-attribute". If you don't, then you end up with a woman with an associate's degree in graphic design getting hired over a man who has a master's degree in 3D design. While it is important to NOT discriminate in the work force, it's also important that you're able to hire the best person for the job based on merits, education, and experience regardless of age, race, sex, etc.

The problem isn't video games. The problem isn't gun control, or lack their of. The problem isn't guns in general. The problem is sh*tty parenting. The same day as Sandy Hook, a man in China walked into a school and STABBED a bunch of kids. With a KNIFE. China has had several incidents like this over the past several years. I haven't heard of them trying to ban knives, because that would be idiotic. Violent video games are rated Mature. They're rated for 17+ for a reason. As an employee of Gamestop, I let loose a mental sigh every a parent walks in and buys GTAIV or Saints Row 3 or Far Cry 3 or any other mature rated game for their kid. Even after telling them "this game has extreme violence and strong language and sexual content", they're like "meh! Don't care!" It's always easier to point the finger at something/someone else than yourself, and that's what most parents will do - "Clearly I'm not the problem, it's these darn video games my kids are playing" - but they're freaking letting them play them!

It's ridiculous.
