Then why the announcement? They don't announce other trivial technical changes.

You get the developers you deserve.

They selected it because they think it has longevity - like Starcraft - and because it is culturally significant, not because it is necessarily significant as a game.

Ah so you're splitting the platform into two groups? Pre-built and custom-built? That doesn't sound like a single platform anymore. Also, the OP never made that distinction. Furthermore, consoles never claimed to be the King, so that comparison is just a distraction.
