Never heard of this yellow light of death before. Has this happened to many people?jai_shailer
if you put in youtube you will see some videos. Here in Uruguaya guy had 2 ps3 with this proble, they were both 60gb. Acording to my technicician the problem is with the 60 and the 20 gb version. But it doesn't happend to the 40gb that's why the 20 and 60gb version are not any longer sell. This happends because the 40gb has a diferent motherboard. At least this is what the technicician told me
[QUOTE="solidsnake798"][QUOTE="groce_j"]I wonder if there's a default assigned letter to unformatted PS3 HDD, have you called a support line or PS3 tech to see if there's such a thing like that?jai_shailer
i live in Uruguay, i know Sony's number but i need to add more numbers to call to US, i don´t know those numbers so i can´t call. I sent Sony an email asking if they could send me an "integrado" (the part that it's failing acording to my technitian, integrado is in Spanish i don't know how it is in English) so that my technician would replace it in my broken ps3
"Integrado" is intergrated so in other words the integrated hard drive??
nop, the hdd is working fine, i had already tried to use the 40gb hdd from my new ps3 on it and it didn`t work. Besides my pc sees the hdd but i can't see what it's inside because they use an other format i guess
Never heard of this yellow ring of death before. But Sony tech support should be able to help you, they have been very good to me. Try it!FlashCharge
my problem is that i live in Uruguay, and i don´t think they're going to sent me the part taht is failing
There is such thing, i had it:( I just got a new PS3 sent to me, couldn't be bothered with trying to get my data back... most trophies require you to replay the game anyway. There doesn't seem to be an easy way of extracting it... if you even can :?Dan_Lero
yes but i have a gta save by half and a mgs with the whole game beated. I sent an email to sony and i'm waiting if thy could send me that part and if they can´t i'm going to ask if they could help me with this

[QUOTE="groce_j"]So you're saying that the 60gig and 40gig HDD on the Ps3's are assigned to it and you can't get it to assign to a different one(60gig or 40gig switched). Maybe you can't install OEM HDD that came with the PS3 to another one. If you have a pc, have you tried transferring your saved data to it in a file and then transfer that to a flash drive and insert the flash drive into the PS3 and try to see if it can retrieve the data if it's not protected.

if i put in the pc it sees it but i doesn't assign a letter, so you can't see what it's inside, to assign a letter you need to format it. i have already tried that. At least that happened on Windows Vista and with Windows Xp, maybe a mac sees it i don`t know. i post it wrong the first time
did you happen to lose power in your room while the ps3 was trying to save to the HDD, that can corrupt your HDD. Maybe you can't get the HDD to work on the 40gig because the 20 and 60gig versions are backwards compatible with the PS1 and PS2, my be a factor but i don't know.groce_j
The ps3 sees the hdd (when i insert it instead of the 40gb hdd) but it says it has to be format
