Great question. I enjoyed the mythology of Skyrims world a lot more but FO4 certainly feels bigger.

At some stage in open world games, I normally like to travel from one end to the other and it took quite some time in Skyrim with a lot of things to do in between. I haven't done so in FO4 yet but will do and get back to you.

Onimusha 2 and 3 were absolutely great games!

i feel they probably haven't aged well and will suffer with poor controls, as a lot of games from that era do. Rather than a remaster, why not just make a new a version? I reckon it would sell well, especially if marketed properly.

I haven't, although I'm hearing it's a lot less linear than the other games. I'll probably get it when it's about 20 quid, noway am I paying full price for a game with much of it's content hidden behind a pay wall (talking about the mp of course).

Ok, so I'm at the Battle of Bunker Hill and feel like I have to choose sides. So, what do I go with? No spoilers please but just some sort of a break down of which is the best faction for me to pick? Especially from people who have actually madei t past this point.

It's not a bad idea...it's a terrible one but an idea which is being supported and protected by the consumers. The same consumers who are about to get ripped off. So hey, if they're happy with it, then let it go. They are allowing their own industry to be ripped apart, part of the work was already done with half finished games selling for full rpice and then DLC adding in the rest of the game for an added price.

When those of us with sense spoke out, we got the same reaction we're getting here. So it will be the consumer that ends up being short changed but considering I'm no longer a full on gamer, I don't mind. Just sit back and watch as the industry I once knew falls apart.

I've had ever Playstation console (not the handhelds lol) and I eevn had the XB and XB360 for a limited period, along with the N64 and GC, again, for short periods.

Sony is definitely the best console manufacturer over a period of the last 20 years. The ps2 being the pinnacle of console gaming. It's been a bit downhill since then.

This would be a fun list for me to do since I love open world games. I'd definitely have many of the games you mentioned. True Crime is an interesting addition. Streets of L.A. and New York were among my first open world (and M-rated) games I played alongside San Andreas, which was my favorite game for a long time.

1. Final Fantasy VII

2. The Witcher 3

3. Dragon Age: Origins (if it counts, its kinda open world)

4. Metal Gear Solid V

5. Final Fantasy Type O

6. Final Fantasy XII

7. GTA Vice City

8. Fallout 4

9. Fallout 3

10. GTA V

11. Final Fantasy IX

12. Mass Effect 2

13. LA Noire

14. Fallout New Vegas

15. Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster

16. Final Fantasy VIII

17. Legend Of Dragoon

18. Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor

19. Grand Theft Auto IV

20. Mad Max

(I woulda prolly put Skyrim but I've only played the first hour of it. Will purchase remaster.

I loved True Crime back in the day, especially New York and it's changing environs depending on how bad an area got, or something along those lines, I can't remember fully lol But it just felt so raw and alive. Probably pales in comparison to modern titles technological but can't beat playing it back then.

Good list Jim, I would have added ME2 too but I didn't feel it was truly open world. There was a central hub (the normandy among a couple others) and then other planets to visit which really felt like open levels, rather than fully open worlds.

Which faction are you starting to side with? I have yet to reach the Institute, but it's mostly because of laziness.

I was hesitant to buy this game, I loved 3 be couldn't care less for another game by Bethesda after and I got so many bugs and crashing glitchs that I'm unsure.

Not a single crash or any bugs. I've heard a lot about Bethesda games having these issues, especially Skyrim but I've never experienced any such thing. Having said that, I never bought any Bethesda game on release so the patches have done their job.

In terms of factions:

I've worked a lot with the Brotherhood and a little bit with the Minutemen and I've gotten in touch with the Railroad. The Brotherhood are definitely my fave at the moment, simply because of the weaponry and back up on offer. Nothing like calling in those ships to blast some super mutants.

Now, in terms of the Institute (keeping spoilers away), once you get there...it changes your whole perception of the story and what's happening. That's all I will say. I haven't had this sort of a moral connection to a story since Mass Effect 2, Fallout 3 and Red Dead Redemption.

The most obvious one for me is MGSV, I'm a massive MGS fan and this game wasn't enough MGS and it was properly unfinished.

I'll also mention GTA IV, again, a massive GTA fan and when it made the jump to PS3, I was like damn, this is gonna be good. It was certainly a good game but it lacked the scope of San Andreas or the vibrancy and fun of Vice City. V was a real return to form.

I would say FF XIII too but I don't think it's as bad as people make it out to be and once you make it through the opening few hours, you start to appreciate what SE were trying at the time.
